To lose 1lb you need a calorie deficit of 3500. Your maintenance calories are probably like 2700. So you need to do 2200/day for a whole week to lose 1lb. That is a lot of work/discipline to do.

What's not difficult is having a 7000 calorie day or a 3500 calorie meal. That will cost you more than a week of progress.

This fundamental asymmetry is why those meals like Olive Garden are a killer. Most people think "I had 21 healthy meals so one bad one isn't a big deal". Wrong.

If he starts to burn more, then metabolism could increase, leading to even more of a deficit when burning calories.

There's an answer here, but it's likely less about what you put in, and more about what you put out.

If walking to the mailbox down the block is the only output, Bobby fasting won't even help much.
