Actually it's been about a week. And I'm surprised I lost weight as well
I’m so happy for you that your neck is better in order for you to work out like you have this year. That’s a true blessing and a long time coming as you’ve been waiting for this day patiently. It's been hot and Bawby's probably so weighed down with water retention he just sweats off a few pounds in the heat.
@BobbyFK get your ass in the gym already and show us your motivation.
I just did a 20 minute elliptical with level 7 resistance, Lat pulls, rows, shrugs, lateral shoulder raises, bicep curls, ab workout, oblique workout and basically planking while doing those core muscle workouts.
Found a Total Gym scrunch machine that helps me do core while not stressing my lower back in a bad way.
Het @BobbyFK , what have you found useful in the gym recently?

Wouldn't recommend an elliptical to someone with back problems. So right on about the mental part remember reading a book on the guy who invented Seal Team 6 and he always said give me somebody that is tough mentally and making them tough physically is easy.So true, so very true.
That said I desperately need radio frequency in my neck. I deal with constant pain and, even worse, constant random back flare ups.
I refuse to let pain that is just a bitch to me and not injury stop me from my goals.
I am focused, I am motivated, I am strong, I am disciplined, I am a machine.
That said, not a day goes by that I don't grunt and say "I can't make it to the gym today" only to get there, get involved, and get it done.
It's hard, really hard, and trying to gain weight is next to impossible. My metabolism has been kicking into high gear and I am simply not used to feeding my body what it actually needs at the pace I'm going.
So far so good, keep those fingers crossed as I'm just one small injury or bad flare up away from the shit hitting the fan.
For now, I am winning the mental battle, and that means I am winning the physical battle.
But this tough, really tough, and every day feels like I'm charging up a hill, with constant resistance in my path.
edawg are you a trainer? I ask because you seem very knowledgeable about this stuff.Wouldn't recommend an elliptical to someone with back problems. Was really into strength training when I was in my teens and early 20's. Was always around powerlifting gyms and boxing gyms back then and must have read 100's books on the subject of strength and conditioning.edawg are you a trainer? I ask because you seem very knowledgeable about this stuff.
I would bet my life that you were underestimating that too as far as last time you’ve been to the gym lol.Just being honest about it
Remember listening to an Ed Coan ( probably the best powerlifter ever) seminar and someone asked him about their routine and his reply is if your getting stronger and making progress without injury why would you change it? Backs and shoulders are always a bitch because they are all ligaments and tendons. Remember though the abs can be trained isometricly with just contracting them in a standing or lying position. Alot of people need the shortening of the sternum to pelvis to "feel" the contraction but when you think about those muscles are made to work statically for the most part.Seems like elliptical has been low impact and easy on the body in general.
I have an L5-S1 fusion from decades ago and pretty much no problems with that area but I have issues in the neck and nerves going down the arms. No weakness, per se, but just pain.
I have a lot of experience with rehab, from back to shoulder, to even ankle, lol.
So I'm careful with everything, but I can still learn.
Any more about the elliptical and back and a suggested substitute would be more than welcome @edawg .
Also, If you don't mind, look at that Total Gym vid above, the second video showing the oblique excercises.
Seems like these are great for my back, the feel great, even stretch it, and waaaaaay batter than the damn sit up bench. I might sneak into the gym one night and set the sit up bench on fire, lol.
But I wondered about the obliques, and the small back twist. So far, it seems to be good for the back and any soreness has been the good kind in my low and mid back.
Any thoughts on that position? I work out with a chiropractor most days, so I have input there too, but I'm a bit of a guinea pig on some of these excercises and the after effects. So far, though, so good.
Appreciate any thoughts you have, discussion with you on any of these things has always been intelligent and enlightening.
No honestly it's been a few months. I can't tell you the last time but it's been awhileI would bet my life that you were underestimating that too as far as last time you’ve been to the gym lol.
6 months O/U -120/+100.No honestly it's been a few months. I can't tell you the last time but it's been awhile
Well, I haven't really had any satisfying workouts to speak of. I do get winded pretty easily at the gym but I just try to push through it. I drink a lot of water and relax when I get homeCommon Bobby, at least tell us you fukkin walked to the mailbox this week.
If you did that, in the heat, then think of what you can accomplish in an air conditioned gym.
I'm heading back to the gym, gonna do legs and then hit the massage chairs and tables.
I've found that recovery from back and shoulders is sooooooo much better when there's some massage involved.
@BobbyFK what do you do to recover after a tough, fulfilling, downright satisfying workout in the gym?
