JR's 2023-2024 NBA plays

1-1 tonight as the Sixers rallied in the 4th Quarter to win and cover against the Nuggets who did in fact play their guys and played the Sixers tough on the road but the Sixers did a good job in the 4th Quarter to rally and get a big win against the best team in the Western Conference. Unfortunately for me the Suns didn't cover even though they came all the way back against the Kings to win the game. Just one of those things I would probably make the same play even though this one lost but the Kings have a good team albeit a little inconsistent and they did cover here for their backers in a game they probably should've won outright.

My first play tonight is on the Bucks vs Cavs game. I like Cleveland tonight as I mentioned in the other thread talking about this game but I think the full game line is very sharp and might even be a Bucks line especially since Cleveland is missing Evan Mobley who is one of their best defenders. They have been playing very well without him but that was against much lesser competition. When they have faced stiffer competition like they are tonight they haven't covered spreads let alone win games so I can't get there with them for the full game which I think is very sharp and is probably what the game ends up landing. I do see Cleveland playing very well early because they're tough defensively so I'm taking a shot with them on the 1Q ML which is plus money.

My next play is on the Hawks who are hosting the Orlando Magic. I have been fading Orlando as much as possible lately because Franz Wagner is a very important player for them and he's been out several games with an ankle injury. He's important because when he's out of the lineup the Magic aren't as good defensively. I think Atlanta comes out strong in this one at home and covers against the Magic who should hang around but ultimately lose this game in the last game of their four game road trip.

Giannis isn't playing today so I think the Cavs are a live dog. This is a situation where the injured star theory comes into play so you can now get the Bucks at a shorter price but without Giannis on the road I still like the Cavs tonight.

Yeah it seems as though the Bucks sort of punted tonight with Giannis out and it being on the road. Sometimes that happens in the NBA where a team doesn't put forth its best game when their star has been out. Unfortunately for me the Hawks won but didn't cover. The Magic have been biting me in the ass the last two plays winning outright against the Knicks on the road and covering the spread against the Hawks in a loss tonight. Back at it tomorrow on a shorter 5 game card and I really can't complain about tonight because I came out ahead with a small profit since the Cavs were plus money in the first quarter which they won easily.

I'm focusing on one game on tonight's 5 game card and that is the Utah Jazz game against the Thunder. The Thunder have been very good against the spread dating all the way back to last season but I think they're running into a buzzsaw tonight. The Jazz have been the hottest team in the NBA and when they're at home they're nearly unbeatable. I think they continue their hot streak tonight against a very good Thunder team. I sprinkled half a unit on the ML because this is going to be a close game and I think the Jazz are live but I feel more confident about them covering the spread so those 3.5 points are valuable here on a hot team playing at home where they dominate.

Well that game didn't go as I expected the Thunder controlled most of the game but the Jazz did make it close in the second half only to fall 5 points short and not cover the number. The Thunder are very good and cover spreads as good or better than anyone over the last two seasons as I highlighted but I thought the Jazz would be able to buck that trend given how hot they've been. Unfortunately the Thunder started off hot and controlled much of the game but the Jazz battled back and this was really a pretty good game unfortunately i didn't win. Hopefully tomorrow goes better for me on a bigger slate so I'll be back with some more plays.

Yeah they did I guess people like me bought in to this Utah team being on a hot streak. Perhaps they were a bit overvalued in the market and it created value on OKC who has been just as hot. The game was never really in doubt although Utah did a good job of keeping it close. Oh well onto today where there are plenty of opportunities to get it back.

I like Boston tonight against Denver but I didn't play the full game here because I feel 7 is bit steep tonight against the World Champion Denver Nuggets. Boston is excellent at home where they haven't lost and cover the vast majority of the time. That's why you're getting 7 with a Denver side that isn't missing anybody and should be motivated to play the Celtics. I think the Celtics come out early and put Denver in a hole heading into halftime but I wouldn't surprised if Denver somehow covers the 7 for the full game so I'm playing it safe and taking the first half with Boston since I do think they lead going into half and cover the first half spread.

My second play is laying the lumber with the Lakers at home against the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn has been struggling lately and haven't done very well covering spreads on this west coast road trip. The Lakers are very good at home and I expect them to take care of business here at home and cover this spread even though it is a lot of chalk for me to lay.

Thanks always nice to get in and get out with a winner. Avoiding a loss on this game was good because I leaned Celtics but I didn't like it at 7. They opened 5.5 and Denver probably shouldn't be catching that many points against anyone unless some of their stars are resting or injured. In this case they weren't and they managed to win the game outright so people brave enough to fade the Celtics full game at home won tonight.

I'm not a Laker fan but I'm starting to wonder if they should get rid of Darvin Ham. This is not a good team and Lebron is on his last legs. They may make the play in tournament again but this is not a championship level team. They haven't been the same following their run to the IST championship in Vegas which seemed scripted for them since Lebron is going to retire soon and this was the first In season tournament so why not give him one last trophy because they ain't winning the NBA title. Anyway I'll be back tomorrow and hopefully I can find some winners.

I'm not disciplined enough for this nor am I interested in only betting one game a night and hammering it. I'm a sports bettor and if I see something I like I take my shot. Sometimes I'm going to miss that's just the way it is but the answer is probably yes I'd do better if I limited myself to one "Best Bet" a night and didn't try to hammer multiple games.
