never had the chance. 3x in Chicago I got mail notice to maybe serve. but then day before you call a hotline and see if the people with the last name starting with your letter even have to show up .

see i feel like calling in and seeing if you have to go or not is a much better system than what i just did. so many people's wasted time sitting in there just waiting around tbh. if im going to go, i want to sit in a trial
So many people stopped going to jury duty in our area, that they now randomly pick names from those who fail to show and send Sheriff's office out to their house/residence with a citation to appear in court. It's only a handful getting cited but its to send a message to the public. They report it on the news.
Worst part is sometimes the people they cite, would have qualified for exemption (disabled, etc...). That doesn't go over well.

The one news report they talked about this occurring was a person who said something like, "I have an exemption so I didn't show up and didn't think I needed send anything back in to the court."
They did not return the paperwork indicating they had an exemption.
Dumb people.....
If you ever do have to serve in Texas, hope its a big a$$ case, like some major felony. Once you serve on something like that you get 3 years exemption.

It actually became a thing here to miss jury duty. If someone at work said, I've been called for jury duty, people would ask, why are you going.... It was getting out of hand.
They had to call hundreds of people just to get 50 to show up to pick from. A lot of defending attorneys would ask for jury trial with the hope there wouldn't be people to pick from and ask for the case to be dismissed. They did this even on cases there was no hope of winning.
For those times that enough people did showed up for jury duty, the defending attorney would then do a quick plea bargain before the trial even began because they knew they'd be found guilty and jury was sent home.
