Reason: I think Nuggets should take advantage of a weak hornets defense. Nuggets should be able to bounce back at home as well after a really weird game against OKC. Blazers have been struggling but Dame seems to have found his stride and blazers have played much better at home this year. Mavs have been playing very competitive and covering against solid teams and bigger spreads but have been folding late in the 2H of those games failing to win. I think the blazers will have a strong 2H surge in this game behind Dame and company leading the blazers to a win.

Kansas has had an electric offense this year and they get a very favorable matchup here against a Nevada team who has struggled on defense. Both teams are in the top 50 in adjusted efficiency and both play at a relatively fast pace as well so I think this game will be a high scoring game at the break.

South Dakota state is a very solid offensive team and I don’t think North Dakota state has the fire power to keep up. SDSU has also played a much tougher schedule to this point as well so I think they are more prepared to go on the road and get a win tonight!

Saturday 1/1 NBA POD:

Bulls -2 -105

I expect the bulls to carry their momentum from the DeRozan buzzer beater into this game against a very average wizards team that has been struggling with consistency lately. Bulls are one of the hottest teams in the NBA and willing to roll with them here as short favs to keep it going.

Suns have been struggling lately but they get a very favorable matchup here against a hornets team who is dreadful defensively. The Suns are still playing solid defense and think they’ll be able to fix their struggles on offense vs this lackluster hornets D.

Heat have been playing very well lately and they’re a very solid defensive team. I think this line is a bit inflated due to the heats recent injuries and how good the warriors have been at home so I’m rolling with the heat here plus the points. The combination of their defense and 3-point shooting should be able to keep them in the game and keep this game within 11.5 points. Cavaliers are an excellent defensive team and I think their size inside will really affect Ja Morant and company on drives to the rim. Grizzlies have been playing great basketball lately but this is a tough sandwich spot from a scheduling standpoint on a back to back and think this may affect the Grizzlies in the 2H. Cavs have been very good against the number this year at home and think this is a solid spot for them to come away with a win!

Pick: Heat ML -120

Heat have been playing some very close games lately and overall have been playing much better over the past 2-3 weeks. Now they get a very favorable matchup against Portland who has one of the worst defenses in the league. Portland has given up an average of 131 points per game over their last 4 so their defense is playing at a season low and I expect the heat to take advantage of this. On the flip side, the heat have had injuries but are still a very physical and solid defensive team who gets a great matchup here against a struggling Portland squad. Clippers have been playing very well on the road lately against stiff competition even with all of their injury concerns. Suns have destroyed the Pelicans and hornets in their last 2 games and while the Suns are a great team, I expect a little bit of regression here against a Clippers team who can be stifling on defense at times. 11 seems a bit high to me and I think the Clippers can keep this game close.

Nicholls is one of the best teams out of the south land and they have played an incredibly tough schedule and held their own nicely. Texas AM CC has been a nice surprise this season but they’ve played a weak schedule and haven’t really been tested to this point. I expect Nicholls to be much more prepared for this game due to their tough non conference schedule which should lead them to a win.

Kentucky is a very good offensive team who hits the glass hard leading to 2nd chance opportunities. Georgia has struggled on the defensive side of the ball this year and I think Kentucky will be able to take advantage of this with their size and skill advantage. I expect Georgia to be able to knock down some shots as well as they are able to put up points in a hurry with their up tempo style of play.

Washington has really struggled on defense this year especially in conference play and I think Colorado will be able to take advantage of this being at home. Washington and Colorado both play at relatively fast tempos and I think this will be a fast paced game with a lot of points early.

Both teams play at a very fast and frenetic pace and rank in the bottom 10 in effective field goal percentage defense. Both teams typically take shots early in the shot clock and I expect a much better effort from PVAM after their surprising loss to Mississippi valley state. I also expect a lot of fouls and free throws between these teams as PVAM is actually dead last in the country in foul rate on defense. That coupled the with up tempo offense and bad defenses on both side, I expect there to be a lot of points early in this game.

Loyola has one of the most efficient offenses in the country and think they’ll be able to score at will against a bad Valpo defense. Valpo can also be explosive at times on offense and think they’ll be able to knock down enough shots to get this 1H over.

Pick: Illinois state +13.5 -103

Illinois state is an improved team in the Missouri valley conference who has played a lot of close games this year. They face a drake team who was crazy ATS last year but has taken a step back in that department this season. Drake has also been playing a lot of close games and playing down to their competition. Illinois state has Antonio reeves who is a potential NBA player who can create for himself and others and I think 13.5 points is too many for this conference matchup

Purdue has an electric offense and should be able to score at will on Nebraska. Nebraska is also a very capable team from the outside as they shoot a lot of 3s. Both teams play a relatively fast pace and I expect both sides to knock down shots at a reasonable clip to get this 1H over.

Hawks have really been struggling lately but I feel like this is the perfect buy low spot on them. They finally get back home where they have played their best ball and they get a revenge game against the Knicks who beat them easily on Christmas when the hawks were dealing with a limited roster. I think hawks bounce back here and grab a much needed home win.

Timberwolves -4 -112

Reason: TWolves have been struggling to close games lately but now they catch the warriors in a bad spot. No Stephen curry tonight and really think the warriors will struggle to find consistent offense without curry or Draymond green and the defense should suffer a bit too without Payton or green. I think the TWolves bounce back here with a solid double digit win
