We are definitely in a full blown trade war, pauses or not.

We”re not just battling China on the Chinese front, but we are battling every other country working with China as well.

This will create new alliances in trade for sure.

I think China is more prepared for this trade with in the US, they have been creating new alliances for a while now. After all, china has been in a trade war with the US since 2016.

Investments and rumors of investments may or may not pan out, but an economic slowdown and inflation will be on the horizon. It might be a little too soon to commit to certain trades, outside of a longer term buy and hold, as any random announcement in this environment can cause quite a move in most markets.

Again, we wait for more concrete economic news, as opposed to administration announcements.

Good post KVB.

China is definitely ready this time. They've already killed the contracts from the 3 main US exporters of grain. They've also shifted beef purchases to Australia (they are loving it) and grain purchases to Brazil/Argentina (they are loving it).

The US makes up only 15% of Chinese exports. If that goes away, they can absorb the impact and seem willing to do so. Xi is ready for a fight.

The back and forth on the tariffs (pauses, who's in who's out, what's in what's out, etc...) is causing US companies just to shutdown all long-term decision making. Sure they may announce some new factory will be built but I don't see them actually committing until the direction is clear and we are far from seeing a clear direction from this administration.

Finally, when will the farmes receive their bail-out like in 2019 as a result of the last tariffs?

Traders, investors, businesses frozen right now. Nobody wants to do anything.

I think they want to see what happens on 90 days.

I think everyone stopped listening to the mixed messages, with the only sure thing being inflation down the road.

Again, we wait for real economic news.

Whoops.
Guess you should thank Joe Biden for this one.....

Though AMD's plans predate U.S. President Donald Trump's return to office, tech companies' efforts to diversify their supply chains have taken on added significance given Trump's escalating tariff war.

3 interviews in for a job related to international payments

I had my last interview in late February, and my status on the “application tracker” still says “in interview process”

I contacted the recruiter a week ago expecting that they would say that moved to other candidates, but it turns out they haven’t and sounds like they are not getting the green light to move on . My bet is they’re gonna eliminate the role due to macroeconomic concerns

Negative.

His administration is currently investigating whether imports of semiconductors threaten national security, which could be a precursor to slapping tariffs on those products.

That's the reason they're doing it now. They want to avoid the tariffs.

Biden couldn't give two fukks.

They announced their plans BEFORE Trump was elected. They already had plans to diversify their production base to Arizona. How can you subsequently say, it is now a result of the tariffs? In reality, Biden had nothing to do with it happening other than being the president when it was announced.

Come on Philyflyer. That's just trying to twist the story. Sure Trump should take credit when its due but not for plans made before his took office.

if you can't see that, you're not trying to see the truth.

Anyone can say anything at any time, means nothing until action gets put behind it.

Why did they wait so long if Biden had anything to do with this?

You think Biden was on the phone with them telling them they need to build here?

Of course not. They're acting now because they don’t want to get hit with the tariffs.

Like I said Biden likely had nothing to do with it. They were already making plans to diversify manufacturing. The timing just landed during his presidency.

As far as "waiting so long"..... The plan was announced last summer. Do you think a company is going to get permits/plans/capital in place in 6 months????

As far as "acting now", they haven't. They've done nothing yet. Nothing more than was done while Biden was in office. I anticipate it will be another 6 months to a year before they even get the environmental permits to start constructing something.

It's wrong to give Trump credit for something already being developed. It appears like desperation, grasping at straws for anything that looks like a win, when it isn't.

Look for other "wins". This isn't one of them.

Not sure I'm following you here, Tank.

You did clearly say we should thank Biden for this, right?

Now you say he likely had nothing to do with it.

The bottom line for any company is $$$.

They clearly didn't want to get with the tariffs which is why they're doing this now.

Plus, having such a Pro-America President has clearly moved the needle for a lot of these companies not just this one.

So no, Biden should get no credit for this in any way.

I said we should "thank" Biden as a sacrastic response to your statement saying we should thank Trump.
Neither had anything to do with this.......

Again, they are not building something in Arizona due to the tariffs. They had already announced those plan prior to Trump.

I am surprised you keep trying to argue this case when it is very obvious it was not a result of Trump's tariffs.
I feel like I'm arguing with someone who wont' accept any facts.

Ah, did not read your sarcasm.

Not sure how you can come to the conclusion that Trump had nothing to do with this.

Tariffs clearly would have affected this company.

Based on that alone, I think Trump had everything to do with this.
