My girl and I have been joking about retiring over there in like 10 years. I'm still pretty young, but I could definitely see myself moving over there at some point. Not sure how realistic it is, but it's an idea for now.

And I definitely understood when you said, "you can basically live for free with a family if you just speak english with them." A couple times we had kids approach us just to talk to us. At the dock station in Ha Long Bay, a mom brought her two kids to the station just to have them work on their English by talking to tourists. At first I was like, wtf is this a scam, then I realized what was going on. It was pretty cool. One part that really stood out was how much English is used as a tool to better people's lives in SEA. We have a friend that lives there who teaches English, she basically says it opens doors to much better opportunity.

If you ever are taking the idea serious there are many factors you need to consider. Vietnam as of this time it could change in the future but they have been saying this for years, they don't offer a retirement visa while the other neighboring countries do. It makes it very difficult to stay here but you can do it if you have some resourceful connects and have documents that the government requires. This October will be 10 years for me and over the years, people come and go , because it is so hard to stay here but once you are here and you know how to do it, you won't want to leave. It is a dream here. I can help and walk you through how things work here.

So I take my motorbike everywhere. I have even drove from Hanoi to Saigon and back. It is an amazing journey. At times, I just go and see where I end up, so today, look at this beautiful place I found, it is about 3 hours from where I live. Absolutely stunning and dangerous to say the least. I did the loop, it was crazy!

I'm way too young to move there now, but when I'm older I think it would be a great place to retire.

How do you stay there that long? What visa's are you on? Are you married to a Vietnamese woman? That would take care of the problem lol.

No. Not married , I don’t use a visa anymore. I started a company and have a residence card. Even if you are married that doesn’t take care of the problem. You still need to exit the country every 6 months and get it renewed and if you divorce it gets revoked. Marriage is not a good way to stay here.

Hi Fly,

1. Which South East Asian countries have you not been to?

2. Does the casinos have the card game "13" (Tien Len)?

3. Please elaborate on exiting every 6 months to renew the visa, as in:
a. You return to the US about once or twice a year for renewal?
b. Typically, how long is this renewal process?
c. Once the renewal is compete, can return to VN immediately? Or perhaps a waiting period, and then can depart back to Vietnam for that licentious life 🤪

Can Google and research these visa policies, but always great to ask someone who is currently going through the experience.

Please read my above post. I have a company here and have a residence card. I do not use a visa.
I have been to every single South East Asian country there is multiple times and most Asian countries. They are all fun in their own way. Timor-Leste and Brunei have some of the best food in the world. Vietnam and Cambodia are my favorite hands down. At the current moment, all nationalities are only granted a 30 day visa, if you want to stay longer, you must exit the country and come back. You can leave and come back the same day. I go back to America 1-2 times a year because I am an American and want to visit. You have to pre arrange a renewal, with no connections, 4-9 days with connections ( pay money) 1 day. You can stay longer without a visa run if you are an investor or working here with a work permit. In order to get a work permit, you must be sponsored by a company and have the correct degree and qualifications , if not , it is possible but it is going to cost you 10x the amount of what it should be, then if the company gets investigated for sponsoring unqualified foreigners, you will get deported one they find you and won't be able to return for 5+ years. plus pay fines before they let you leave. investor visa is only good for one year and you must have a capital of 135k to get that , but you can get it renewed. The best is to get what i have , a residence card. I know many people that do visa runs to Cambodia and Laos they just go walk over, get a new stamp and come back, no issues. Google is incorrect when it comes to the way things actually work here. The casinos here do not have black jack, roulette or craps. They have Da San, Dou Dizhu, Gou Ji, Bao Huang, Da Da, and others. There are hundreds of Casinos in Vietnam but only one Vietnamese can enter, Vietnamese go to border towns in Cambodia to gamble.
