I do think it’s more prevalent that kids have “luxuries” given to them - cars, cell phones, spending money - at least compared to a few generations ago.
2 part reason for that in my opinion:
- 1. Parents simply aren’t working as hard for that money - so they don’t have an “attachment” to it. It’s funny - but when you bust ass doing physical work all day - the last thing you want to do is give it to a cell provider so your 11 year old has a new iPhone.
- 2. Convenience factor - it’s easier to let kids be more “independent” than having to have them rely on you for transportation. Give them a phone, a car and money to do their own thing and they don’t bother you during your free time. Again - this one’s on the parents - not the kids. If it’s an inconvenience to have to spend time with your kid - your shit as a parent.
