I knew guys in this chop shop industry years back. They are still in the business but in a different faction. They would tell me that the club would not detour them from stealing a car , that the club is very easy to disable and take off.

Exactly - if they want it - they WILL take it.

Just as the repo man will grab your car - any “pro” level thief can easily grab a car with a “snatch truck” - stealth towing gear - back up and grab it from the rear/lift and drive off.

Sure they will tear up a front wheel drive car doing this - but what do they care ? They are gonna chop it anyway - I have no doubt the supply chain issues a few years ago prompted a boost in thefts of certain cars. Further - if your near the Southern US border or a major port - lots of demand for parts from certain Japan/German make parts - especially 4x4 stuff. World wide brands and parts that are shared across a wide number of vehicles makes them very in demand.

Can you kill if someone robs your car?
In Texas.... YES.

Last year, a guy a few houses down from my daughter shot at 3 guys (hit 1) who were breaking into his truck to steal it. His alarm went off and he came out shooting. They got away at the time but the one guy who was hit, was taken to the hospital where he was arrested.

The cops came over and told the home owner, the DA wasn't pressing charges and that he needs to get to the gun range to improve his aim.

Remind me again of what ISNT legal in Texas.

Literally it’s pretty much do whatever the hell you want down there isn’t it ?

Makes me want to move there - if not for the damn heat on the South part and tornados to the North.

I remember Adam Carolla talking about when he lived in the crap part of L.A. in an apartment and he had to park out on the street, he installed a kill switch in the fuel line under his truck. Had his truck stolen 3 times - all 3 times found it a half a block away “out of gas”. Always thought of doing something like that - no car thief would even think of looking for a switch…..
