Las Vegas would totally be a fun option. The farther you are away from the strip the cheaper everything gets.

I've thought about living in Mexico, SE Asia and even Portugal. I'm too much of a homebody to leave the US for any length of time.

I may look at selling my house and taking the equity to buy 2 manufactured homes. One in the Phoenix area and one in the mountains a couple hours away. I could move back and forth depending upon the weather.

I would have no mortgage payment so then I could afford to stay a couple months in SE Asia at the beginning of every year until I got tired of the humidity.

People say manufactured homes don't appreciate, and for the most part that's true. However, those homes do appreciate in the mountains and they don't lose their value much here in the city. Besides, I would be looking for all that equity anyway. I'm only going to live 20 or 30 more years so I think I would be happy living like that.

I think manufactured homes are good homes.
My sister and brother in-law lived in one for 10 years when they bought a ranch and saved up money to build a house. It was awesome. I always thought of doing that in retirement.

Depends on what you consider poor. The dollar goes one hell of a lot farther in these countries than in the US. You can live very very comfortably in most of these countries for < 50% of what it costs in the US. JJ, you could live like a king in most of these places.

The biggest factor to consider when you live abroard, especially if you're retired, is healthcare.
8 out of 10 of these countries have better healthcare systems than in the US. I kept the first 5 on the list so you could see who was at the top.

Singapore has great health care but I prefer Bangkok, they have one of the best hospitals in the world, people go for medical tourism.

Why is that?

I've been to Phuket a few times but never Pattaya. Phuket has a Walking Street (Soi Bangla). I have a friend in Pattaya who always wants me to visit him. Covid really shut down a lot of the bars there.
