So thinking of treating myself with my next cash out to a nicer watch. I’ve got a few watches I consider “better” quality - cost between $300-500 - but never owned a “quality” timepiece.

I’ll never pay for a Rolex - the idea of 5 figures for a watch to me is excessive - at least to someone who doesn’t know much about what they are buying. But thinking of maybe a “poor man’s Rolex” and buying a Tudor Black Bay. Not so outrageously expensive that I’d be afraid to wear it - but can obviously see it’s a step above quality wise and of course made by the same parent company as Rolex.

I know flyingillini is our resident watch expert - so curious on your verdict. Worth the $$ or is there another brand I should look at in the price range? Just like the overall look - but again it’s a fairly timeless look that’s been copied by everyone too.

If your not buying a watch at least 15,000 do not bother

High end watches hold value unlike $300 tin watches

Not all of us have $200 bankrolls to gamble with.

Some of us don’t buy for resale - just personal enjoyment. I don’t plan on reselling nor needing to hawk it for cash at the pawn shop to place a bet.

Just enjoy having “heirloom quality” stuff - nice quality that can be passed on someday to someone - I’ve got a few knives and guns like that and a few guitars too that will be gifted to people in the future who helped me. Thought it might be nice to own a watch or 2 like that as well too. Probably try to pick it up on my next vacation - always nice to have something to look forward to and remember the trip for.

I'm kind of surprised Djeff... With all the electronics these days, watches are fading from society (exception: the ones that also monitor your health, workouts, etc...).

I could care less what other people think really.

With the number of knock offs and overall decent quality of some - I don’t think many people care - unless they are an aficionado who knows what they are talking about.

I’ve never been into the cork sniffing side of any hobby. Buy what YOU like and appreciate- way too many people associate price tag with quality - which is often dead wrong.

I will give a good example....

Years ago I used to buy my daughter clothes from Abercrombie & Fitch

But they caved to the pressure of those 'less fortunate' not being able to afford those types of clothes

And they removed their name & logo from all of their clothing.

Now all of the shirts & jackets look like the same plain thing I can get for Target for 1/4 the price

So why would I pay a fortune now when nobody can even see what brand it is?!?

Electronics and such will always have a place - but there is something about a well built anything.

It’s like comparing a Tesla to a classic American muscle car or a Porsche 911. Yea - the Tesla has lots of neat things on it - but then again so did my 1984 Chrysler LeBaron with a digital dash and a voice that would talk to you and give messages like “remember to buckle up”.

In 25 years - no one have a shit about the LeBaron - but those cars remain timeless.

A&F is a “woke” brand - selling rags made for cents in Indonesia and getting $60-80 at their mall stores while paying a few young and decent looking teen’s minimum wage to promote the product.

Screw Les Wexner and his buddy Epstein and all their business pursuits.

Not exactly shocking coming from a "woke weirdo" who deserved the "Luigi treatment" more than that healthcare CEO.
