That involves multiple things but It was supposed to be based on ‘Free Trade’

No surprise it was agreed to in 2020 right after Biden took office

Canada has still been sticking it to us with tariffs (not sure about Mexico I can’t remember)

Hence the reason Trump countered and he has stated many times we are only matching tariffs we are already being charged

Now Canada counters back by planning to raise theirs to continue getting the upper hand

Trudea doesn’t want FREE trade.
He wants to keep charging the U.S. and Canada gets a pass

I think Mexico is being influenced by Trudea and hopefully they realize that is a mistake

Lutnick (Commerce Secretary) called Ontario first and asked for negotiations. Ontario said ok and then backed down on the electricity cuts. Kind of looks like US blinked first and Ontario is playing nice to get negotiations going.

Hopefully, this administrations sees how badly all of this is impacting both economies. Consumer spending dropped a ton just due to the threats and GDP is exected to be negative in 1Q as a result.
