This isn't about tariffs at all. It's not about drugs coming over the border.

It's about Trump trying to create a false impression of a national security threat crisis from Canada, to justify invasion and hostile takeover of Canada.

Economically, because both Mexico & Canada trade at a net positive with us, the tariff threat is the one thing that can wipe them off the face of the earth.

For example, Canada has an economy worth about $2T dollars. 10% of that is essentially subsidized by the US trade deficit.

If Canada accepts a tariff, we can bridge that gap via increased treasury revenue from it. If they fight it, that only allows us to export our inflation to their own detriment, because the world trades in US Dollars. It's a lose/ lose for those that fight the US financially when we've got 38T in debt & fiat currency.

You either get our inflation or pay us to allow you into the #1 consumer economy.

So some liberal media sources are saying the deal Trump made to pause the tariffs was him caving in. Of course they would say that. But, apparently, as part of this deal, the $1.3B Canada is going to spend to secure their border, was already in place on Dec 17th under Biden (see article below).

WTH????
I guess we did get Canada's attention and are making them name a drug czar so that is a change.

Watch out. Trump may use this as an excuse to invade Canada and make it the 51st state...

I know Trump won't do this for 1 reason and 1 reason only. Canada would become the largest US state and give the Democrats 2 more US Senate seats and, more importantly, 50 more US House seats. :ROFLMAO:
I shouldn't have said 50 more House seats since the total is limited to 435 but it would shift a huge chunk of seats to the Dems from all the other states.

What is the main impact of all of this on a normal US and Canadian citizen, Tank? Imported goods will be pricey,.. what else.

Sorry its long.

Likely nothing will come of it. The tariffs are "paused" for 30 days but I doubt they will actually get implemented on Canada and Mexico goods. It would crush everyone's economy and hopefully, Trump knows this so it probably won't happen. He appears to have been the one who "blinked" with Canada but portrays it as a win.

But, the lingering impact of all this, is that Canadians now have a bad taste in their mouth about American goods. So American companies that sell stuff there will likely be impacted (e.g. Kentuck Bourbon, Farm Machinery, etc...). They seem to be willing to pay more to "BUY CANADIAN".

Prices will likely get a little higher on items just because of the tariff threat Trump is using. Similar to the tariff he threatened to impose on Columbia when they would not take the immigrants back. The tariff was never implemented because Columbia caved in but, coffee prices went up ~5-10% due to the future uncertainty associated with potential tariffs.

I don't want to overthink, but this is really bad.

People questioning, doubting, and giving advice to 2 men who have made great business decisions their entire lives, now trying to make the country stronger financially and dig us out of debt, is like telling Stephon Curry he needs to work on his shooting form, or questioning McDonald’s on their expansion practices since their very first restaurant

Funny stuff
