On this day in history, the St. Louis Cardinals beat the St. Louis Browns 3-1 to clinch the World Series, four games to two. The 1944 Trolley Series is notable for many reasons:
It was one of only four World Series in which all the games were played in one stadium;
It marked the first time two teams west of the Mississippi River met in the World Series;
It was the only World Series in which no steals were recorded;
It was the last time that a team in the World Series didn't send a single player to the Hall of Fame;
And it would mark the Browns' only appearance in the Fall Classic.
