Disagree COMPLETELY.I agree. No doubt about that. And I cannot speak to soccer which I know zero about. I cannot speak for all sports even in todays world.
But the NFL is a billion dollar business for each franchise. It is bigger than any person, player, referee or coach. Did that stuff happen ? Yes ! 100%. But in todays climate. No. And if it was ever attempted it would be sniffed out immediately I would think. Mainly because the owners and all the participants have way too much to lose to allow it.
As a rule of thumb, look at the revenue and purses or salaries . If they are very low like a crappy racetrack like in Louisiana or W. Va. , I would not be surprised at all. But at a major revenue producing event, IMO, it is just too big to be messed with. Nobody involved would allow something to take place that might impact the overall business revenue. It’s not worth it.
Boston College in the 70’s ? Yes !
Bowie racetrack in the early 70’s? Yes. I witnessed it.
The Black Sox ? Sure. No money in it 100 years ago.
Boxing ? Do not know the sport but check the purses. The money IS the police these days.
Soccer? Probably . I wouldn’t trust low level events at all.
Tim Donaghy? Yep. And it was the money involved that ended up catching him.
I saw a scorekeeper in the NBA cheat the clock multiple times in the 70’s trying to help the home team . Heck, I knew him. But that time is long gone thankfully. There’s just too much money.
I hope that makes sense.
Oh, and lastly, that poster The River55 is darn good people. Having discussed this topic over the years with him , he gets it.
He is a good guy.
All the best sir.
If it didn't happen in the NFL then why was Riger Goodell so terrified that Jon Grudens case against him and the league would go to trial?
They even told the judge in loved if it goes to trial it could damage the league beyond repair?
Ask yourself what could do that.
What could damage the NFL beyond repair?
If the games were fixed.
Because then no one would watch it.
They know it.
