Opening Day: 1-1 (0.00)

Seattle Sounders -0.5 (-115) v. Colorado Rapids

(Don’t get why 3-way Seattle is -120. Shouldn’t it be the same at -115?)

After each missing the postseason in 2022, bot teams will begin what they hope will be a year of redemption when they square off at Lumen Field on Sunday in the opening fixture of 2023 for both sides.

Two years ago, these were the top two teams in the Western Conference by the end of the 2021 regular season, but in the previous campaign, the Rapids and Sounders finished 10th and 11th, respectively. Heartbreaking, especially for the Sounders as they missed the MLS Cup playoffs for the first time in club history.

They can’t be happy but gotta be happy being at home as they won nine of their 12 regular affairs a year ago, posting four clean sheets. And they are ecstatic facing Rapids because, including the playoffs, Seattle have won six consecutive home fixtures versus Colorado, shutting them out four times over this period.

Portland Timbers (ev) v. Sporting Kansas City

Another game with both teams missing out on the playoffs last year and fighting to make a winning start to the new season. The chainsaws will be out but in a close win Portland will be victorious.

Now coming off the back of a positive run of friendlies, and with the need to return to the playoff picture this season, Portland will be desperate to make a winning start to the campaign at Providence Park.

They meet a Sporting Kansas City side who are also vying to bounce back from a disappointing campaign, as after finishing third in the Western Conference in 2021, they would sink to 12th spot in the 14-team division last time around.

We’re kicking it into the 2nd weekend of MLS action! Since last week El Traffico game was postponed, this will be LAFC first game of the season. They are welcoming Portland Timbers in visiting the Banc of California Stadium aiming to record back to back victories, having come out on top in their season-opener last time out.

LA being at home means that it is hard to envisage any other outcome other than a win. Timbers will put up a decent fight, but LAFC will win a close one.

Los Angeles FC (-250) vs Portland Timbers

No MSL games during the week, but MLS teams are in CONCACAF. Need a win so I’ll go to MLS teams to help me out:

Tigres UANL vs Orlando City u2.5 (+105)

Orlando got a draw with Cincinnati last Saturday but did make it a clean sheet. So can they continue not giving up a goal against Tigres?

Tigres beat LAFC 2-1 in the final to clinch their first title. They are second in Liga MX and them with 3 other Liga teams are here.

MLS also has 4 teams including Orlando who are debuting in this competition. Orlando may be new to this competition but will keep this a low scoring match.

Why does MLS start in the spring? This is such an odd time. Most leagues start in August.
I think MLS got scare of having too much competition w/ NFL and to certain degree w/ NBA and NFL. Maybe it was ok at the beginning but in the long run they need to switch to the international schedule. They also should get rid of playoffs and go with table of all the teams.
