This is getting better and better for the Astros....
According to the NY Post:

• Mets are paying Verlander's $35M this year. He has a $43M contract this year and next year. That must mean the Astros are only covering $8M in 2023.
• Mets are also paying Verlander's $35M in 2024, again that should mean the Astros cover only $8M next year.
• If the 2025 option is triggered (occurs if Verlander pitches 140 innings in 2024), then Mets will pay $17.5M to Verlander in 2025 out of $35M he would be owed.

Wow. Astros getting last years Cy Young winner for $8M for remainder of 2023 and $8M for 2024 and maybe $17.5M in 2025.

The Astros definitely got the better of this deal. Not to mention only having to give up 2 prospects
