The only thing I'm considering is taking a shot on Houston ML and go from there as game goes on

I agree with LT earlier in the thread I think that may be the real Championship game
I'm leaning Houston as well. If they slow down Flagg I think they win.

J'Wan Roberts will be gaurding him which gives Flagg an inch of height advantage but Roberts has 30 lbs of meat advantage that will hopefully wear on Flagg as the game progresses. Houston is very physical team. Maybe we'll see a Bill Laimbeer type punishment of Flagg. :ROFLMAO:

NCAA Tournament best bets: Sides, totals that stand out in Final Four

LV REVIEW JOURNAL SUBSCRIPTION

Alex White won Station Casinos’ Last Man Standing college football contest in 2022 and hit 64 percent of her plays last season in the Review-Journal College Challenge, finishing 44-25-1 against the spread.

It turns out she’s pretty good at picking college basketball winners, too. White, a South Point studio host who helped sportsbook director Chris Andrews make the opening lines for the NCAA Tournament, went 12-5 ATS, including 5-0 in the Sweet 16, and hit both of her best bets to win the RJ March Madness Challenge.

White, whose father, Kenny White, aka the “Wizard of Odds,” used to run Las Vegas Sports Consultants, learned from her dad how to create power ratings for teams.

“My betting strategy is 75 percent power ratings and 25 percent research,” said Alex White (@alexwhitee), 36, a former UNLV cheerleader and current on-field emcee for the Aviators. “Each team begins the season with a power rating, based on individual player power ratings. I use these power ratings to make my own betting line and look for differences of three to five points from the books’ number to mine. If my numbers are the same or close to the books’, I just pass.

“The other (25 percent) is the motivation, coaching edge, scheduling, look-aheads, letdowns, revenge, et cetera. I use this part of the equation to support a potential bet based off my power ratings and/or to keep me off a bet. The power ratings are constantly adjusted throughout the season based off performance and outcome.”

White’s best bet in Saturday’s Final Four is on the Houston-Duke under 136.

“The Cougars are the best defensive team in the country and they slow games down to a crawl. They are consistent and great at it,” she said. “Duke is the top offense in the country but also fantastic on the defensive end.”

Texas-based handicapper Paul Stone, who went 10-7 in the RJ Challenge, also made the Houston-Duke under his best bet.

Houston ranks 360th in adjusted tempo on KenPom and No. 1 in defensive efficiency. The Cougars also lead the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 58.3 points per game. Duke is seventh, giving up 62.6 points per game.

“One could argue that Houston’s Kelvin Sampson is the best coach in college basketball today,” said Stone (@Paulstonesports). “I’m sure he realizes the Cougars’ best path to victory is slowing the pace and shortening the game. They need to drag the Blue Devils into the mud, so to speak.

“I don’t think either team gets out of the 60s in this one.”

Florida-Auburn

We have conflicting best bets on the Florida-Auburn national semifinal.

Pro handicappers Bruce Marshall and Doug Fitz, who tied for second in the RJ Challenge, made Florida their best bet. Veteran Westgate SuperBook oddsmaker Ed Salmons likes Auburn.

Marshall took the Gators -2½, while Fitz likes them on the money line (-150) after they erased a late nine-point deficit to Texas Tech in their Elite Eight matchup.

“I picked Florida pre-tournament to win it all and I’m certainly not changing now,” said Fitz (Systemplays.com). “This shapes up to be a very close game that could be decided by a point or two, so I’ll lay the money line on Florida rather than laying the points.”

Said Marshall: “I became sold on the Gators when they won handily at Auburn in February. No fluke. They controlled that game when Auburn was flying at its absolute highest this season.”

Value bet

Salmons said bettors are getting a bargain on Auburn because it was favored by 10½ over Florida on Feb. 8 in a 90-81 home loss.

“From being a 10½-point favorite in that game and now they’re playing on a neutral court and they’re getting 2½, and perhaps even a 3 come Saturday, I think Auburn offers a ton of value,” Salmons said. “I really like Auburn in that game. I think they have a lot to prove. This Florida team’s trying to lose. They should’ve lost to (Texas) Tech. UConn had a reasonable chance to beat them. And I think Auburn’s going to put them out of their misery.

“Sports betting is all about betting things that you perceive are off from reality. The reality is the public loves Florida. They know which way the people want to bet and that’s why the line is situated this way. I think you’re going to get a very motivated, hungry Auburn team that’s played really well in the tournament and, for whatever reason, they don’t get any credit for it.”

Houston underdog in NCAA title game despite stunning upset of Duke

LV JOURNAL REVIE JOURNAL

Florida is a consensus 1-point favorite over Houston in Monday night’s men’s college basketball national championship game.

The consensus total is 142 for the matchup of No. 1 seeds that both rallied for comeback wins Saturday in the Final Four national semifinals.

Houston, which closed as a 4½-point underdog to Duke, trailed 64-55 with less than three minutes left before ending the game on a 15-3 run, including 9-0 in the final minute, in a stunning 70-67 victory.

It was a miracle over for bettors who wagered on the game to top the opening total of 136½, as the teams combined for 14 points in the final 86 seconds. On the flip side, it was a bad beat for bettors who went under 136½ after the total closed at 137½.

Florida erased an eight-point halftime deficit en route to a 79-73 victory over Auburn and cover as a 2-point favorite in Saturday’s first national semifinal.

The game stayed under the total of 158½ to snap the Gators’ 11-game over streak.

Walter Clayton Jr. scored 34 points for the Gators to become the first player since Larry Bird in 1979 to score 30 points or more in back-to-back Elite Eight and Final Four games.

A BetMGM gambler has a $100,000 wager to win $900,000 riding on Florida to cut down the nets at 9-1.

A BetMGM bettor lost a $500,000 wager that would’ve paid $1.75 million had Duke won the national title.

VSiN host can win $130K in futures bets on Florida-Houston title game

LV REVIEW JOURNAL SUBSCRIPTION

VSiN host Mitch Moss thought he had missed his chance to bet on Florida at long odds to win the men’s college basketball national championship.

“I was super high on them early in the year. But I initially watched their odds drop from 60-1 to 40-1 and lower than that without betting them,” said Moss (@MitchMossRadio). “I said, ‘I missed 60-1 so now I’m not betting 40-1.’ Dumb.

The longtime Las Vegas sports talk radio host won another chance to win big on the Gators when he got a free roll on the NCAA Tournament champion in a bracket buster blackjack tournament at Circa hosted by owner Derek Stevens and vice president of operations Mike Palm.

Moss finished second in the 16-player event in early March. After the winner went with Duke (+315) in the futures draft, Moss used his prize, a $15,000 bet, on Florida at +725.

“It was my chance to make up for missing those numbers (early in the year),” he said. “Plus, I was going for a higher payout with the free roll. Florida was +725 at the time, and a team like Auburn was about half that.”

Florida is a 1-point favorite over Houston in Monday’s title game and the total is 141.

If the Gators prevail, Moss will win $108,750 on his free bet and a total of more than $130,000 overall as he also has Florida on a future ticket at 16-1.

“I’ll be hedging Monday,” he said.

WagerTalk owner Kelly Stewart also will cash a big ticket if the Gators win. The former Barstool Sports handicapper has $1,175 to win $47,000 riding on Florida to cut down the nets at 40-1. She placed the bet in December.

Stewart also has a future ticket on Houston at 10-1 and plans to bet more on the Cougars on Monday to lock in a profit of $25,000 regardless of which team wins.

“Florida was lucky to beat UConn, Florida was lucky to beat Texas Tech and Florida was lucky to beat Auburn,” said Stewart (@KellyinVegas). “So I think this is like a gift from the gambling gods and they say, ‘Kelly, don’t be greedy. Take your guaranteed money.’”

Final Four

Florida erased an eight-point halftime deficit en route to a 79-73 victory over Auburn and covered as a 2-point favorite in Saturday’s first national semifinal. The Gators, who trailed by nine in the second half, reached odds of +250 on the live money line at Caesars Sportsbook.

The game stayed under the total of 158½ to snap Florida’s 11-game over streak.

Houston, which closed as a 4½-point underdog to Duke, wiped out a 14-point deficit over the final eight minutes in a stunning 70-67 victory.

The Cougars trailed 64-55 with less than three minutes left before closing the game on a 15-3 run. Houston’s live money line odds soared as high as 25-1 and its title odds skyrocketed to 50-1 at one point.

The win by Houston snapped a 13-game winning streak by favorites, who suffered their first outright loss since the second round.

“We finally got a ‘dog to win. It broke up a lot of parlays. There were a ton of Florida-Duke parlays and we took some big bets on Duke’s team total over 70½,” Westgate vice president of race and sports John Murray said. “I have no idea how that stayed under but it did. They made one field goal in the last 10½ minutes of the game.

“But it really sets us up in a pretty bad future position. We don’t really have a good position on Houston or Florida.”

The Cougars’ comeback win carried Caesars to its biggest winning day of the NCAA Tournament.

“Following a period of consistent betting activity from the bettors backing the favorites and cashing each round, the Final Four was a different story,” Caesars college basketball trader Patrick Berbert said. “The game between Houston and Duke proved to be particularly lucrative as bettors had been consistently supporting what seemed to be an unbeatable Duke team throughout the tournament, continuing to back them in their matchup against Houston.”

The early betting action Sunday on the title game was balanced, with ticket counts at Caesars equal on the spread and money line. The total had ticked down a point from the opener of 142.

“It’s a total toss-up,” Murray said. “Some of the guys in our room said Florida -1 and some said Houston -1.”
