Carnival is soooo ghetto

They are - but alot is origin and destination.

3-4 days out of Florida tend to draw a cheap party crowd - just like Alaska/Hawaii tend to be a better class of tourist.

Been on many cruises - personally find we like a bit of a mix. Some of the lines just feel like floating retirement homes. Carnival (and Royal) can draw some ghetto crowds - but easy enough to avoid them by skipping the pool area and buffet and going to casino off hours. Casino between 9p-1A is ghetto central (especially around the craps table of they open one). Nothing like watching the ensuing comedy of a bunch of $10 bettors from a poker machine nearby.

Yep , years ago I did one out of Miami and it was pretty bad but then I did a Mexican Riviera out of Long Beach Cali and it was alright .

Of course I'm going to tip

Those days are long gone - yes, remember well the line at guest services (on many lines) from people seeking to remove the ā€œdaily service feeā€. It was insane the last night of a cruise people who suddenly felt it appropriate to bring up every ā€œissueā€ they had with staff.

Only one time did I feel a complaint was warranted (on 20+ cruises) to customer service desk - it was an older Carnival ship out of Charleston on a 4 day. Honestly - the staff attitude was likely a result of being sick and tired of shitty guest behavior. This was right after sailings started again and a lot of the crew had been stuck in limbo aboard the ship just sitting - couldn’t go home, couldn’t get off due to not being citizens - just had to stay aboard the boat for 18 months in many cases - then when things started back up after a few months guest were already bitching and moaning about everything that had changed.

Also, keep in mind tipping is culturally not a thing in many countries. It’s viewed as ā€œbeggingā€ accepting tips and a sign of arrogance in extending one towards someone - acting as if they are a mere servant class and the tipper is of a higher class.

Worst cruises are Port Canaveral (shit ton of kids flying into Orlando and the Disney factor draws higher percent of middle class Chinese tourist and locals with a half dozen kids en-tow) or Seattle/Vancouver (again - Chinese). The Chinese just have a certain way of being annoying on cruises to me - they generally seem to have a feeling of ā€œsuperiorityā€ towards other guest and tend to travel in large groups. Keep in mind shops are generally narrow passageways and trying to walk past a group of a dozen Chinese leisurely walking and chatting with no social awareness is annoying. Other than that - 2nd least favorite group are ā€œlifersā€ - the people who have been on 100 cruises and know every damn thing they are entitled to for free and ready to remind everyone. Same people also happy to recollect the ā€œgood old daysā€ before cruises charged for everything (sorry - up sales have always been part of the model. It’s just recently changed to even lower base fares and more and nicer ā€œupgradeā€ options - like before there would be a single steak house for nicer meals and reservations would be tough to get and they charged $25 - now you have 5 different paid dining venues, more availability and prices between $15-40 and people bitch).

I got one of those ā€œfree cruiseā€ vouchers from the Rio Hotel & Casino a while back, and after looking into it, I finally pulled the trigger on a sailing! I’m booked for February 15–22, 2026 aboard the Carnival Liberty, and I’m pretty pumped to get back out to sea.

The itinerary is sounds pretty good, we’ll be hitting Key West, Celebration Key, and Nassau.

I’ve never been to Key West before, so I’m really looking forward to exploring that area.

Celebration Key is brand-new—Carnival’s private island that’s built with all kinds of amenities like beach clubs, swim-up bars, and water activities.

I’ve been to Nassau once or twice many years ago, but it’ll be cool to revisit and see what’s changed.

This will be my first cruise since my Alaska trip back in October 2024, so I’m definitely ready to be back on the water. And while I say ā€œfree,ā€ of course there are still costs—taxes and port fees alone were about $500 for a 7-day cruise for two people in an interior cabin, which honestly isn’t bad considering all the included food, entertainment, and destinations.

I ended up upgrading to an ocean view cabin and added my stepdaughter to the booking, so for all three of us it came out to around $1,300 total without hotel or airfare.

I'm also excited to be sailing out of New Orleans as I've never been there either but I'm excited to try the food and visit bourbon street.
Bobby is the cruise king. Did you watch the Netflix doc on 'The Poop' Cruise?
