Reminds me of this quote.

I will say coworkers have been nice - got a nice “care package” the other day - gift cards for Instacart/DoorDash and things like that since I’m kind of stuck at home.

Also got a nice card and gift card from the big boss - gift card to Outback Steakhouse - yea, is that the best gift to someone with a recent heart attack ? Thought that counts though.

They want me alive though I suspect - wasn’t aware until looking it up - but my life insurance and disability are 100% underwritten by my employer. I knew enough to get as much life insurance as I could before I turned 50 and prices start to soar - so they have a huge liability if I drop so cheaper to keep me alive at this point fortunately for me.

Thinking about it - isn’t having life insurance like the ultimate “going out a winner” for a gambler.

They have salads at Outback too Djefferis. :ROFLMAO:

I got a call from my CEO day after I broke my ankle at work. I had never met the guy. I worked at a huge company (10k+ employees, Fortune 500). I was still in the hospital and they had just moved me out of the ICU following surgery where they rebuilt my ankle.

I was still messed up from all the drugs so I don't remember half of it. My wife said the first question he asked was, "When are you coming back to work"?

Not, "How you doing" or "What can we do for you". Just, when you coming back to work. Genie's post #20 captures it well.

Take your time buddy. Get better. There will always be work waiting for you when you get there.

Don't let work push to get you back early. That can cause more problems.
Been there. Done that... not with heart surgery but surgically rebuild ankle.

Doctor said 2 months, work said 2 weeks. The stupid dedicated idiot that I am went back after two weeks and ankle never healed properly.

Take your time. Its obviously serious and you need to heal.
Tanko that is nuts.....2 weeks? I had the same with ankle and was out 4.5 months.

Sucked. I was hobbling around work on crutches for 8 weeks and then a walking boot for 3 months before they finally took some of the pins out and I was free to move again.

The best part though was I talked them into allowing my wife to bring me lunch so on many days I got to have lunch with her regularly.

But, my injury is nothig compared to what Djefferis went through. He needs to really take it easy and fully recover to be safe.

2 years now - good group of people though. Almost all long term elsewhere and moved to the company within the same period of time - so we get along well.

Who goes to a steakhouse and orders a salad ?!? You order steak and beer in ‘Merica - otherwise GTFO.

Seriously - agree 2 weeks is a ridiculous time frame to come back from a broken ankle - especially with surgical repair. Some places though have zero clue and would happily toss workers under the bus. Had more than a few who were like that.

Had one who told me if I wasn’t back to work on Monday to turn my shit in after my dad died on a Wednesday. Told them the funeral was Monday and feel free to come pick their shit up as I’d be in attendance. This was a big national company - but mainly was my local boss who was the problem. The regional VP who just took over 2 weeks before called and sent a nice card and flowers. The regional boss who had met my dad multiple times and was aware of his cancer did nothing. I wound up going back the day after my bereavement leave ended - worked a day and then called off 8 weeks straight on sick time before quitting (couldn’t cash out sick time - only vacation time).

Honestly - it’s a big thing to deal with and not at all fun. Old man broke his ankle once at one of our family picnics (booze may have been involved) - laid him up quite a while and bothered him his entire life after. Said it hurt like hell.

Mine - honestly no pain. I’m sure they had me on decent dope following surgery - I don’t recall the day of surgery other than waking up on breathing tube and wanting it out. I can get around fine for the most part - just winded easily now. Little by little increasing my steps/activity. Can’t imaging having to be laid up weeks/months.
