You raise a very good point here Wager. When I saw Newsom doing some "foreign relations" negotiating in the press, I questioned, how he could do that.

How would it be possible for California to obtain a "carve-out" of the tariffs on their goods sold overseas?

It's actually very easy, and he has a history of it.

California circumvented Trump during COVID and got more supplies for its state response from foreign sources. And the state generally handled it better

Let's see if the target the tariffs, if they really do try to eliminate barriers, and/or cut actual real world deals on manufacturing.

He was responsible for one of the worst 3-day market losses in decades, and the worst market start for any president in history because of the tariffs. He was only going to tolerate that for so much longer.

He made a mistake and thankfully he did the right thing by scrapping the tariffs. The 90-day pause thing is also bogus -- he's not going to enforce them because he knows there is no economic reason to have them for 90% of the world.

He'll probably just claim it was a negotiation tactic after his team was so adamant that it wasn't (the contradictory statements within his own administration is by itself hilarious).

Obviously he should listen to his administration and say it wasn't -- because negotiating with countries when there is literally nothing to negotiate is very dumb

But sadly our society is intellectually lazy and doesn't realize that most countries aren't ripping us off. They don't realize that being a net importer of goods isn't a bad thing. Frankly there's no scenario where that changes.

You play the markets based on what’s going happening in the world

He’s a legend all right. The chart he used to calculate the basis for each country’s percentage was incorrect. He used .46 and it should have been .12. The man that invented that calculation verified that.

Yes, we've known this more months now.

Somewhere an ultimatum may have been given to the White House and congress may have been willing to take control back.

Whatever gets said to save face will be likely just about everything else that comes from the Oval office...lacking in credibility.

The intellectual laziness you speak was in this thread from the beginning and is especially a problem when disinformation is given out. This is what I have been railing against in this thread.
