What? The trade war was declared on the USA by almost every nation on earth.

Trump is simply responding to it.

He was very clear in his speech.

The days of the US being taken advantage of by friend and foe alike are over.

yeah problem with that is it's simply not true - and it only takes a little research to figure it out.

are there some areas where we lose trade wise - of course. the same is true for every country but overall we do far better than some others

if u want to use tariffs to target certain specific areas of trade that can work but these broad across the board things like this are economic killers - and we are already seeing some of the effects. it has to be targeted not just willy nilly

Here's a history lesson for all you tariffs experts:

Tariffs have historically provided significant benefits to the United States, particularly in its early development and industrialization. Here are key arguments detailing their advantages:

Revenue Generation

  • From the nation's founding until the Civil War, tariffs were the primary source of federal revenue, accounting for over 90% of income. The Tariff Act of 1789 helped fund government expenses and repay Revolutionary War debts26.

Industrial Protection

  • Tariffs shielded emerging industries from foreign competition, fostering domestic production. For example, high tariffs on steel in the late 19th century allowed U.S. mills to grow and eventually outperform British competitors, turning the U.S. into a global steel exporter6.
  • During the Industrial Revolution, tariffs supported infant industries like textiles and machinery manufacturing, enabling them to develop and compete globally6.

Economic Growth and Job Creation

  • Tariffs have been shown to stimulate domestic manufacturing and create jobs by incentivizing companies to produce goods locally rather than rely on imports. Recent studies found that Trump-era tariffs led to significant reshoring in sectors like steel and aluminum17.

Strategic Leverage

  • Historically, tariffs were used as a tool for negotiating trade agreements. For instance, Trump’s tariffs played a role in securing deals like the USMCA and Phase One China agreement by applying pressure on trading partners36.

National Security

  • Tariffs have been employed to protect industries critical to national security, such as steel production during wartime. They ensured self-sufficiency in essential materials during conflicts like World War I56

The problem is we (U.S.A.) & Trump waited far too long to do this. Should’ve been done like 40-50 years ago when the big automakers first started leaving Detroit & getting $#!T cheaply made elsewhere with no consequences.

Everyone else followed suit, and America got fat & lazy and now reliant on buying things like a giant flat-screen T.V. for $400…..

But it's all Trump’s fault according to these geniuses here.

Keep in mind the numbers listed now that we are charging are new and we just raised them. Before we were charging basically nothing while many of them were ripping us a new A-Hole

Meaning the difference in what they were all charging the U.S. and what we charged them was much-much larger

There is no arguing point in all of this. Noting those opposed to it can say that makes any sense.

Other countries were f***!ng the United States over for a very long time and finally someone with a backbone said no more

what level of tariffs are we at with heard and mcdonald islands LIL

embarrassment goofball equation and planning. like a jr high last minute presentation prep level
No one is exempted.

If you send your goods to the US, they are subject to tariffs now regardless of where they come from.

If the countries don't like it, they don't have to sell.
