People probably watched that OSU game and assume Ole Miss or Alabama are better than Indiana

No way

No rating systems are going to be super relevant over such a small sample size of games

And that includes things like SOS

For context, Ole Miss had the third-highest SP+ rating when they were 5-2

They had a higher rating than Oregon

Yeah, this is why analytics are overblown — especially in football

And I am probably the most qualified to judge analytics on this board from a professional perspective at least

Exactly - the alleged strength of SEC top to bottom the same old excuse given to explain why 2 loss SEC teams are better than 1 loss non SEC teams come end of the year.

Now we have a 3 loss ‘Bama and this is why - they are forced to play “tough” teams like Vandy/Kemtucky/Oklahoma/South Carolina who they lose to or barely beat. But somehow they are better than Penn State in the minds of SEC fanboys.

This is a team that’s 8-3 - 3 of those wins are against teams that were cupcakes. You beat up on a Wiscinsio team having a bad year on the road and Mizzo. Yes - LSU in Death Valley and Georgia are nice wins - but c’mon - 3 losses is inexcusable inconsistency. LSU is just as inconsistent as ‘Bama so you’re down to a single signature win.

Texas is probably best SEC has to offer - but what’s their signature win this season ? Michigan ?!? Barely beat Vandy who beat ‘Bama - again played 3 cupcakes and Miss State. Georgia can at least claim wins vs Texas and Tennessee as well as Clemson.

Yea - if I had to pick the tougher conference it’s the BIGeighTEeN this year top to bottom.

Thanks. Proved my point.
Proved that you put way too much weight into flawed rating systems?

College football is not a sport that is meant to be over analyzed by statistics. Way too many teams, competition levels, noise in a short seasons.

Use stats when they are appropriate. Some stats could have saved you from saying something dumb like “Kobe is better than LeBron” a few months ago, though common sense should have been enough there.

The SEC ironically has been top-heavy for a while with Alabama and Georgia

They always just assume that teams like Vanderbilt/South Carolina/Kentucky are tough with no evidence

It’s also well known that in past years you’d sees these 8-4 “tough” SEC teams at the bottom of the top 25 to bolster top teams resumes

But but but SP+ 🤣
