Indiana QB sorry for “cooked spreads” as a result of late safety resulting in 5 point win vs 7

I'm surprised he would come right out and apologize like that over this. Most players wouldn't acknowledge it

Exactly - shows 100% how aware these guys are about the spread - despite supposedly not having any interest in betting the games.

I mean ask him if AAPL was up or down the day before on the market - he’d look at you like “how TF would I know - I don’t own any stocks”. But he knows the spread but allegedly has no interest in betting on them.

Agreed.

Seems like a strange thing to acknowledge but I suppose we are bound to see more and more of this type of acknowledgement.

Maybe we're not used to the athletes acknowledging, but we are also in a time where those commercials say 1 in 3 athletes are harrassed on campus and in life for betting reasons.

So if bettors can take that baggage into the next week, I suppose we will see athletes address it post game too.

it would be nice if more players and coaches would acknowledge the betting angles as well.

Would it though?

They start doing that and everyone will start bitching, calling it shady.

Coaches and players should be, at least in appearance even if not true, focused on winning the game and staying healthy, not the betting angles. Even if we all know there is more to it than that, the more players and coaches talk about betting, the image of just being focused on winning erodes.

Exactly.

Just as there are “partnerships” between leagues and sportsbetting apps - there should always be a Chinese Wall between the actual betting on events and the events/participants and officiating where neither acknowledge the presence of the other.

Obviously any influence - real or perceived - would kill credibility and viewership. It’s already slipping in some sports. Talking about the problem isn’t the way to solve it. Tim Donaghy talked - does it make you trust the NBA more for betting purposes ?

That's a good way of looking at it and you're right it may cast a negative light upon things

Betting on sports and football especially is everywhere. How can a kid his age not see it ?
He should not have mentioned that but his age gets a pass IMO.
I certainly remember how stupid I was then.
