No the money is gone, the scammers convinced her to send them 18,000 in bitcoin with some crazy elaborate story. Shes recently a widow and is not use to controlling the finances. I sat down and talked to her about all the ways scumbags can scam you in 2024. That will never happen again !

At least 4 of my financial acounts (banks, investing, CCs, etc...) now have voice recognition software as one of the checks. When I call for customer service, one of the factors used to confirm its me is my voice.

I wonder if AI is going to screw with that security software now since you can copy people's voices instantly.

I'm assuming you have auto-alerts set up on anything and everything associated with financial accounts, right?

I get emails and texts whenever there is a transaction or any change on any of my accounts. Its overwhelming sometimes but, better than someone stealing the money.

Anybody ever get asked to answer like 3 or 4 questions by your bank to verify your identity before? I had to call my bank today as they put a hold on a transfer I initiated because they
couldn't identify me.

1. What color was your previously owned Ford Tempo?
Hell if I know. Never owned one . If I did it was like 40 years ago.
2. What county did you live in back in 1989?
Really?
3. Which street is nearest to you?
They gave me 3 and a highway connector. None close to me. Only knew the highway connector.
I guessed right but to be honest they were all stabs in the dark. My memory is decent but some of these are ridiculous especially when dated 40 years ago.

I used to have to ask people these questions when I was on the phones and running credit. Cannot remember the name of the resource we used, it sounded like Linux but it was a lil dif. Was like 8 years ago. The person asking you the questions is literally reading them off a screen and doesn't have like some profile of you on the screen.

No, she sent the money to the scammers personally. So the bank can’t help her. They convinced her they had to move her money out of her account because of a breech at the bank. Yes I know she fell for a very stupid scam she’s an old lady who is recently a widow.

Ok ok everything seems legit. I ask you these questions because my girlfriend‘s mother got scammed for $18,000 recently and it all started with a phone call from the bank. Which it wasn’t really the bank they changed the caller ID and they had her hook line sinker.

Bro when I was in Tech Support and even when I was with Liberty Mutual, the scam stories I have heard man, it is CRAZY.
