These are two different types of dangerous. Phnom Penh is dangerous like getting jacked for stuff. On the way to Mong La and in Myanmar is civil unrest , kidnapping, bombings, different types of dangerous. Yangon is pretty safe but outside are redzones.

This is old but a funny read on people asking how to get to Mong La and if anyone can take them. I have been there 3 times and each time, I had to pay militias and surrender my passport and my phone, but there are tons of casinos, crazy illegal wildlife , girls, , on the way there in the jungle, it is ranked 2nd int he world for opium production, i have been close to someI had a guy with me that I met and he has taken me all 3 times, he assures me it will be a challenge this time but we can do it, but the roads to get there are unreal and with the civil unreal , dangerous. But this is a good read. These are guys are clueless and it is all about being resourceful.

Can you imagine 16 hours, dirt roads, danger, etc to get there and not get in this time, it could happen but there is always a way and $ takes care of everything, it is truly paradise in Mong La, casinos, tigers, bears, girls, drugs ( even though I don't do them ) it is unreal there, no police either.
