How goes it, you still down in Vietnam?

I'm planning another trip down that way. Let me know if you have any suggestions on these places.

Fly into Saigon, probably only stay a night or two. Then go to Con Dao (island) and stay a few days, then split about a week between Can Tho and Chau Doc. We are going to these places because we are trying to cut down the travel time on our way to Cambodia. After Chau Doc, we would go to Kampot in Cambodia, and then our last place would be Phnom Penh. Probably will be in Cambodia no more than about a week.We really want to see Siem Reap, but don't think we will have time and would require a lot more travel and likely a plane ticket.

Curious what your thoughts are on these places.

I have been to all those places many times. There are better places than Côn Đảo but it is fine to go if you never have been. I am not a fan of HCMC, I prefer Sihanoukville to Kampot, depends what you like and what you are into, everyone likes different things and want to see different things. If you want beaches than Côn Đảo is not the place to go but it is cool there, rent a motorbike and go in the hills, monkeys everywhere. But Phan Thiết, Tuy Hòa ,Quy Nhơn have some of the best beaches and white sand there are. I am an expert on Campuchia and Việt Nam. If you want to ask something let me know.

Appreciate the quick reply. I’m going to look into all these places. My dad is huge on Vietnam, he goes about 3-4 times a year. He’s putting the trip together but we all have say in where we want to go. Some of the places I think we are going are more convenient to lessen travel.

Illini,
Do they still have wild tigers in Vietnam? I always think of that scene from "Apocolypse Now" where they are boating down the river in a motor boat and one guy in the boat sees a wild tiger and shoots into the jungle.

the illegal wildlife trading is thriving there. It is more prominent in Myanmar but Việt Nam is the #1 consumer in the world for Rhino horn. I did see baby bears for sale and monkeys being electrocuted in a cage before their brains are cooked at a restaurant. A full tigers bones pieced out go for 200-350k.
