I went to Cambodia for the weekend, my view today from an Island near Sihanoukville , many dead bodies have washed up here over the last two years. Amazing island, Kaoh Tang. A few dead bodies were found here a few weeks ago I was told. Lots of Violence, murders and kidnappings now in Sihanoukville , now that Chins is open, the amount of people at these casinos is astounding, the place is packed, KTV's going all night, flooded with Chinese mafia. It is just amazing to me, no ATM's in the casinos and none take credit cards to stay. everything is cash. I took a private boat here for a few hours. Sihanoukville is an adult playground, it gets going from 12am-5am, the streets are fun but not for everyone , you won't see any westerners roaming around, but me.

Sihanoukville - Avoid non-essential travel

Avoid non-essential travel to Sihanoukville and around the Special Economic Zone due to criminal activity.

Sihanoukville

Criminals operate in the seaside resort of Sihanoukville and the Special Economic Zone. The criminal activity includes drug and human trafficking as well as employment scams.

If you travel to this area despite the advisory:

  • exercise extreme caution
  • follow the instructions of local authorities

Crime

Street crime targeting foreigners, including pick-pocketing, kidnapping, murder are common in urban areas, including:

  • Phnom Penh
  • Siem Reap
  • Sihanoukville, particularly in the Boeung Keng Kang area south and west of the Independence Monument
Crimes occur any time of day or night.

Armed assaults, although increasingly rare, may occur in Phnom Penh and on isolated beaches in Sihanoukville. Canadians have been injured during assaults and armed robberies.

Thieves, sometimes on motorcycles, grab bags and other valuables (including passports) from pedestrians, motorcycle drivers and motorcycle passengers.

Firearm ownership is high, and guns are often used in cases of robbery and personal dispute or disagreement, including those involving foreigners. Personal belongings have been stolen from locked rooms, particularly in low-cost accommodations. Items have been removed from luggage stored in the luggage compartments of buses, especially on the journey between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

Banditry poses a risk, particularly at night, in rural areas and on routes between Snoul, Kratié and Stung Treng in the northeastern provinces. Foreigners have encountered difficulties with ill-disciplined police and military personnel.

  • Exercise a high degree of caution at all times
  • Avoid travelling alone, especially at night
  • Ensure personal belongings, including passports and other travel documents, are secure at all times

Human trafficking is some of the worst in the world in Sihanoukville. it is all over the place. You see these compounds everywhere. There are no police in the SEZ, sometimes, rarely Interpol will come and do raids but it is impossible to stop.

This is a great read, and the beaches here have some of the best clubs and bars I have ever been to. It is unreal.

Human Trafficking violations should impose the highest penalty, life imprisonment or even death!

Lots of people from the Philippines are in Sihanoukville as well as Vietnam, trapped in these compounds. My hotel is across the street of one that has barbed wire around it. Heavily guarded outside as well.

3rd world countries are always the victim, but note most of the traffickers are also from these countries.
