The only way I am leaving is if I get kicked out. I am active looking to get citizenship but literally impossible. It is very hard to stay here. I literally pay money and have some connections in order to say here. You just can't come here to live. You can but lots of hurdles etc etc.In June it will be 10 years here. The best decision I have ever made. I am the happiest person I have ever been. I have love for the people here. it is the nicest place I have ever been. It beats American in everything besides music and sports. But the sports here are fun too. You won't meet another American that has passion for Vietnam like I do. Come out to visit!

Short story is he’s paying a guy under the table for decade temp residency.

Are you able to tell us a price range? I'm curious b/c I would love to retire in South East Asia when I get old. With my retirement money, 401K and pension I'll be living like a king compared to a peasant if still in the states.

You are referring to a visa run. Vietnam is cracking down on that and currently they only issue a one month visa to people. Then you have to leave and you can come back. Only 30 days each time. So many people left Vietnam once they implemented that. It used to be 3 months to a year. They wanted to get rid of the backpacker foreigners that would come and exploit the country. So those people have moved on to Cambodia, Laos and Thailand where the visa rules are relaxed. Vietnam doesn’t even offer a retirement visa. I have a temporary residence card which I renew every two years. I have a company here which allows me residency. It’s a complicated country but well worth it. There are foreigners living all over the country in every city. This place is amazing!

Non that doesn’t exist here. I wish it did. People get caught then put on the black list and never can come back

I never have to leave the country with my residency card. Although I do because I travel all the time. I go to Laos , Cambodia , Myanmar almost every month. People only issued a one month visa have to leave every month. No way around that. Some countries are making people stay out for 2 weeks but Vietnam doesn’t , you can walk into Cambodia and walk back to Vietnam the same day.

Two guys I know personally and many others I have read have got deported last month. I hang out with an immigration officer and go to cockfights with him. He tells me stories about all the deportations happening
