At a previous job I worked at, my coworker and I received the same email alerting us to be aware of where the fire extinguishers were and where the exit doors were. We both looked at each other and said we don't know where the extinguishers were.
So we decided to find where the fire extinguishers were. One was just to the right of the exit door that we passed every day on our way out.
Men have a tendency to be goal oriented so we look for the solution and the solution to our exiting the building is to look only at the door. We tend to have tunnel vision, blocking out anything that is not related to our goal.
