Franz quick summary of where you've been so far??

We flew into Frankfurt to see son #1 who lives about an hour away. Thats where the 1st pics were from Landau , Germany. Went for dinner in Wissembourg , France that night to have all you can eat Flambe Torte's and tasty wines.
The next stop was literally in Nowheresville Southern Germany for the wedding. Back the Munich are for a few days with Son#3 and his new baby. We will tour the Southern area for a few days and the travel to a small town in Austria for some Spa pampering and yummy cuisine. We fly home Tue , July 22nd.
Will post some pics along the way

Our son and his new bride wanted an old style traditional Bavarian Wedding. Nothing complicated and formal , just 140 close friends and family to enjoy a day of celebration. The steps are very different then North America. Only family members ( 34 of us ) went to the local City Hall ( Rathaus) to witness the signing of the documents. Then you go to the Wedding, where you begin with appetizers , cakes and desserts in the early afternoon. Locally brewed Beer and wines are consumed throughout , followed by a Buffet style BBQ ( 3 large spits with a Pig , Salmon and Lamb ) cooking for 6 hours in an open courtyard. There are several different salads all prepared as sides. A gentleman with an acoustic guitar entertains until nightfall. At the point ( 10:30pm ) fireworks fill the air and several varieties of Schnapps are used to toast the new couple. The party goes on until the last man drops ( 5am local time for us ) and we stagger back to our rooms at a local castle. Thankfully , this could be the last one for a while as my liver needs a break. Lol
A beautiful bride and looks like an amazing wedding.
Is she from Germany?

My ancestors are from there way down the line of the SHIRES name.
My great grandparents on my mothers side are from Luxembourg near Mertert on the Eastern border, next to Germany.
My great grandparents on my fathers side are from Germany near Trier (West Germany) about 5 miles away from Mertert.

Both migrated to an area where Germans were buying up farmland in NW Iowa in 1900-1910. That's where my parent met.

Its crazy that my parent's grandparents separately migrated from an area 5 miles apart in Europe to only live about 10 miles apart in the US.

Wow , that's a cool story. What are the odds on that.

Cool backstory I don’t have much info on my ancestors like you do. My great grandfathers dad was from Southern Germany in the 1800s. The original electrician of the family.

My son did some kind of Geneology badge in boy scouts years ago and found out my wife's ancestors (Dutch) came over in 1635. That's 15 years after the Mayflower. Crazy stuff.
