Our son and his new bride wanted an old style traditional Bavarian Wedding. Nothing complicated and formal , just 140 close friends and family to enjoy a day of celebration. The steps are very different then North America. Only family members ( 34 of us ) went to the local City Hall ( Rathaus) to witness the signing of the documents. Then you go to the Wedding, where you begin with appetizers , cakes and desserts in the early afternoon. Locally brewed Beer and wines are consumed throughout , followed by a Buffet style BBQ ( 3 large spits with a Pig , Salmon and Lamb ) cooking for 6 hours in an open courtyard. There are several different salads all prepared as sides. A gentleman with an acoustic guitar entertains until nightfall. At the point ( 10:30pm ) fireworks fill the air and several varieties of Schnapps are used to toast the new couple. The party goes on until the last man drops ( 5am local time for us ) and we stagger back to our rooms at a local castle. Thankfully , this could be the last one for a while as my liver needs a break.
