You guys do realize Putins not in the negotiating room. Not really a negotiation it’s take it or leave it. And now this Marines name is a household name will help his cause. And he was taken under Trumps watch Trump did nothing and now I’m reading he was dishonorably discharged from the marines.
And a little poke at you TrumpTards lol. The GOP hasn’t won an election since 2016 maybe they need to quit the sky s falling crap and start legislating.

Thank you for your indulgence Minny will be in here in 3-2-1

I'm not happy about it but the alternative was... Griner stays in penal colony for a decade.
What would you do? Say,... screw it. If we don't get Griner and Whalen, then we aren't doing the deal. That would be dumb.

I'm shocked they even wanted the russian guy back. I can't imagine he has any value to them. He's been in prison for over a decade and there wasn't any public outcry in Russia saying.... "We need Viktor Bout back".

If this was the best we could do, so be it.

Russia gave her 10 years because she was a US citizen in a tricky political climate

They didn’t give her 10 years because of her crime . Even in Russia, what she did would’ve warranted MUCH less time

That’s why we had to get involved

Why was it not worth it though?

Too much being made of the release of that other guy. Like Tanko said, surprised they want him

It’s not like he’s going to start dealin arms and shit again

Why wouldn't he? The USA spent a lot of time and resources to capture him.

Now he's free.

We gave up something we fought hard for and got nothing in return.

Imagine when Russia captures something of value. They'll demand the nuclear launch codes.

I don't think the US actually caught Viktor Bout. He was caught by one of the countries in SouthEast Asia in 2008. It took until 2012 to get him extridicted to US.

Also, I read this morning we have some Russian spies in our prisions that might be trade bait for Whelan. I think the problem is the US is saying Whelan shouldn't be considered a spy by Russia. So, giving up a Russian spy for him may make it appear that Whelan was a spy the whole time.

A lot of BS politics involved to try and save face by both governments.

FYI: For those who don't know it yet: Viktor Bout is called "The Merchant of Death" and Nicholas Cage plays him in the film "Lord of War"an American crime drama in 2005. Now I need to watch this!
We should have tried to trick ‘em and given them Nicholas Cage instead

I didn't say they did catch him.

They did waste a lot of time and money trying to do so, however.
My bad...
I'm going to bet if this guy goes back into business, the next time a "gov't" agency gets him, he won't be going to prison.

Have you seen the movie? It was decent.

No. I'll add it to my to do list.

USA had a huge sting operation to try and catch him. It was high priority.
