Good point. I didn't think about it being on the hot water side. The leak was cold water so it didn't register when I shut the house water off.


Also, asking the wife to forgo a shower for more than a day would have been impossible. She works at a hospital and showers regularly. We would have had to get a $150 hotel room just for the shower.

I had something similar last month 1/2” elbow behind the water heater spraying, plumber drained and removed water heater then replaced the elbow, re installed water heater, total cost was $370 same day service. Bought house new in 1990 and this is the third elbow that’s started spraying since then, usually happens after the city has water off for whatever reason.

Keep a couple small 3/4” stainless hose clamps around and a piece of rubber such as a motorcycle inner tube , you can make a temporary patch to stop the leak and turn water back on if you want to take bids to get it repaired next time.

We use to just cut these up and use the smooth side They are cheap

1 1/2 ‘’ no hub band

In the construction trade, we call them 90’s tank. As 90° angle fittings.

No , those bands are for drains . Nothing like that for live water . Your original fitting was a 1/2 ‘’ copper street 90 see how one goes directly into the tee ?

Yep. I get how they are different.

Couple of things I do not mess with, plumbing on the water side that are not screwed connections (where there is pressure) and electricity. Too much to screw up with DYI.

I can throw a hammer and build about anything with lumber or mechanical on a car/truck but, water and elec --> nope.

Yeah. I learned:
1. Its probably cheaper to fly Leisure in for a plumbing fix than to hire locally.
