Guy had what I’d consider 3-4 really good/great years.

All the rest decent or average

3.74 career ERA

251 career wins, longevity main reason for 3,000k

Guy was a good innings eater/workhorse.

Just not sure about HOF, and especially not first ballot 86 percent

Ichirio was obvious of course

Wagner had been close several times, so not surprising he got in on his 10th chance

Beltran and Andrew Jones will likely get in next 2-3 years or so

Votto gonna easily get in

Thank god
You a Votto guy??

Man I love me some Joey Votto

Guy could rake and was the epitome of the Moneyball-era player. On base % was off the charts

He was one of my three keepers, along with Miggy and McCutchin (then replaced McCutchin with Altuve), in a fantasy baseball league I played in for years. Finally stopped in 2012 after winning the league three straight and 5 of 9 seasons.

Just loved Votto. The way he filled the box score game after game was amazing. Doubles, homers, walks, ribbies, you name it.

Pete Rose absolutely loved him some Joey Votto too

One thing I hate about guys like Votto is when they hang on too long like he has and it’s driven his career average down to .294

Absolutely should be a .300 hitter

That was what Mantle said was his biggest regret once.

That he didn’t stop playing before losing his career .300 average. He finished at .298

I believe he said he was ashamed because he was unquestionably a .300 hitter or something along those lines

Major Votto guy

My favorite Red of all-time. Wish Reds could have built a better team around him

If CC had spent most of his career - having the exact same numbers and accomplishments - for, say, the Royals, Twins or Brewers, no way he’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer garnering 86.5% of votes.

The numbers and consistent very, very good-to-great, year after year, just isn’t there.

Also can’t believe Ichiro wasn’t unanimous
Can you believe some SOB did not vote for Ichirio to make the HOF? Just one person said no.
Unbelieveable s#it. That voter should be banned.

I wasn't surprised about CC....
It seems as though, if a plarer stays "clean", doesn't cause a s#it-storm of bad press, and have a half-a$$ career, you'll make it. The bar seems like its been lowered a lot.

The bar is lowered but there's plenty of guys that had good careers that didn't come close to the HOF so I think it still takes a special career to make it in. Some guys put up better numbers than others so they get in on the first year of eligibility. In CC's case I think he was fairly consistent over a long period of time but I agree maybe he shouldn't have gotten in first ballot. I think he's worthy though of being a HOF player based on what he did over the course of his career.

CC was arguably the best pitcher in baseball for a 7 year stretch there.

He's also a character and belongs in the 'story of baseball'

Wagber, however, does not. That cheapest the achievement and if I'm CC I'm paying Ichiro some Yen or Sushi gift cards to get my plaque as far away from Wagners as possible.

CC belongs.

I don’t give a shit for this “first ballot” HOF vs HOF argument- you either are or are not. Should not be a 10 year eligibility - make it 5 tops and veterans committee every year.

Stupid that a guy like Andruw Jones gets punished for a short career - but certain guys get the argument they only got stats for sticking around so long used against them.

I don’t think Jones is HOF - but he will make it next year with a lack of “quality” candidates. Beltran cheats and gets in toonext year but Clemens, Bonds, Manny, Arod, Rose break rules and don’t make it.

Closers will make it the next couple of years too - based on stats. Not a real fan of that myself but it is what it is. Just because your top 5 in saves doesn’t mean you’re among the “elite”. Just means teams didn’t value a save 50 years ago like they do today - similar to the reason we now see 6 man rotations and top guys with 17 wins in a year. 300 is an impossible standard to reach these days.
