Yesterday was fun.

Had a tractor trailer blown over in N Texas to start my morning and then a major pile up as a result of dust storm in Kansas right as I was signing off for the day.

Had some minor thunderstorms here in NE Ohio this morning - but otherwise a nice warm spring day yesterday.

So ready for spring to be over with already.

It’s never over - Monday will likely be fun.

At least I’m no longer doing property and immediate response. Nothing like spending your spring just waiting for the call to jump on a plane and spending 3-4 weeks somewhere after a tornado working 6 hour days before heading back to a motel - only to move to summer filling in for people on vacation before August comes along and its sitting around waiting on a call to head to Florida for 3 week stints post hurricane suffering 6 day weeks in the heat:

It's fukkin amazing that we don't get this shit in PA.

The weather here changes every 5 minutes but we don't got to deal with hurricanes, tornadoes, dust storms, or wildfires.

You in the insurance business?

Yes - still am just a different line of business.

Property was a pain in the ass - especially doing catastrophe response.

Good money for some - especially if you’re young, single and have no attachments. Money is even better if your either working independently or as a storm chaser selling to areas impacted by wind/hail.

Had one storm chaser tell me he made about 240k and worked maybe 4 months before heading back home. Easy money - just show up at people’s homes and say “I can get you a free roof at no cost AND put $500-1k in your pocket when we are done. All I need is a copy of your homeowners insurance and to inspect your roof”. He’s also literally be calling to report the “damage” while he was on the roof denting things up with a hammer and unsealing shingles with a putty knife. Had the scam down pat - he’d sign up 20-30 houses in a subdivision - then walk into the office of a local roofer and say let’s make a deal. He’d sign the roofer up to do the jobs for him - and either take a fee off the top or guarantee the roofer an amount and he’d deal with getting the claims approved.

So many insurance companies are cutting back and using outside “experts” to do their legwork as a cost savings. He was paying off the local “expert” who did most inspections and if they ever got wise or used someone else - he’d protest until he got someone in his pocket.

Eventually found a lucrative career in going straight and teaching insurance company adjusters the tricks they would use and how to spot and defend. I guess the field
got a little too crowded for him and he liked the easier lifestyle of just coming into town - doing a one day seminar and collecting a guaranteed paycheck:

No - just the worst drivers of any big city - aside from possibly DC or Boston or Miami.

Seriously - I hate even riding in a car in Philly. It feels like your going to die at any time. NY is crazy - but with so many people on the road your never going too fast - San Francisco with a million Asians and hills/curvy ass roads you’d think would be worse - but again everyone is in a damn Prius. Philly is all big SUVs cutting each other off and brake checking each other after doing it.

Worst drivers easily from Massachusetts.

In terms of overall driving skills, I would rank PA drivers as among the best.

Most people living in rural areas have no clue how to parallel park a car.

That's the first thing you're taught up here.

Possibly correct on the Massholes - but Philly has its share of shitty drivers still.

PA as the best - clearly not on the Western side of the state. Worst damn roads and drivers. You’d think with so damn many 1 way streets they would understand what 1 way means. They don’t.

I’ll grant you rural people cannot parallel park for shit. Mainly because they don’t have to. You have all the land in the world and plenty of parking - no need for that shit.

At the same time - let’s see some of the city folk back a trailer. Rural kids are doing it with a tractor and wagon at like 10. Just Google boat launch failures and I guarantee you 95% are some city dude in his mall crawler trying to back a trailer into the water. It’s comical to watch someone of these guys who cannot back a trailer. I’m far from great at it - but more from lack of confidence than the overly cocky guys who truly have no idea of the basics.

The problem with not being able to parallel park is once those rural people come into the city, they're stuck and looking for help leaving them hopeless.

Then they tie up the traffic that builds up behind them causing massive frustration while waiting for this idiot to get out of the way.

I can back a trailer and have launched boats down the jersey shore with no problem, but trying to get a rural hick to parallel park is a nightmare.
