44 years ago today - news broke that the musical genius that was John “Bonzo” Bonham had passed overnight in his sleep.

I’ll stop short of calling him the greatest drummer of all time - but certainly one of the most influential. This song just shows why he remains inspiring to guys to this day.

Like a lot of drummers before him - he was so much more than simply “loud”. Sure - he could beat the skins harder than anyone - and he could party with the best of them. But he also had both that instinctive timing and ability to play softly that makes a good drummer great. He didn’t have to be at the forefront of every song - but when it was time he had no problem taking over. RIP Bonzo
