This is FACT.
Wife and I have been poor in the past. I mean very poor. I remember the days of tuna and pasta and borrowing money to cover rent. Others have had it much worse (no food or home at all).

What's most upsetting is that medical bills are the leading cause of poverty. People will say, you can get free gov't assistance for medical issues. That is not always the case, no matter how poor you are and if you have even a small amount of money, medical bills will take it all and then leave you completely broke.

Its sad that this happens, even in a rich country like America. Many think it's a person's choice to be poor. That's not always the case. Unexpected circumstances build that can lead to it. That is why we help others out. A leg up for someone can lead to them getting out of poverty or at least having some hope to get something better.

Until someone has been seriously poor, they won't understand what its like (e.g. every politician in America).

I'll step off my soap box now.

I always tell my mom to do general check-ups as she's not getting younger anymore, she always refuses and so I told my siblings that no matter how hard I work in this lifetime if mom gets sick, I will end up with nothing. Nada.
