The old man used to drink Carlos Rossi - seriously, first time I went back to the old homestead after he passed to start cleaning up - the number of those damn gallon jugs he accumulated was stunning. He “saved” them like must other junk - he had a plan on using them someday. Always talked how he was going to start making his own wine when he felt better. Could have opened a damn vineyard with the amount of bottles he had stashed out in one of the sheds.
Boone’s Farm Apple - oh the stories I could tell about that stuff. It was basically a $2 bottle of wine cooler. Back when we had the package store - would sell between 15-30 cases a week - all Friday and Saturday night and usually one bottle at a time to some 21-23 year old - probably buying for their teenage “friends”. Actually not “wine” (or at least Snow Creek Berry wasn’t and I believe Strawberry Hill and Peach) - it’s a a malt beverage. Ohio is one of those weird states that says “no wine on Sunday” - so couldn’t sell wine - but malts are ok and we were clear to sell Boone’s. $1.88 a bottle in the late 90s - made it $2 with sales tax.
Mogen David 20/20 - Aka Mad Dog - never touched the stuff - Blue Hawaiian looked cool - but stuff was DISGUSTING

. Original grape was ok - but I preferred Wild Irish - or better yet some stout beer.
If you haven’t tried them - try a nice ice wine. Amish make a lot of varieties here and stuff is sneaky strong. Those damn Krauts know how to make booze that will sneak up on you - similar to the Asian’s and their rice wines. You think it’s lightweight stuff and suddenly your passed out in a field some random Sunday morning wondering how you got there.
Also - wine, like art is something to buy what you like and not judge based on the price tag. Some really good wines for 8-12 bucks a bottle that can be enjoyed. Way too many people think $100 bottle better than a case of the $10 stuff. It’s about what YOU like - not what the online reviews/experts tell you to like.
