Physical immortality.

If it was possible, would you choose live forever?

I say yes.

Is it actually possible? Again, yes.

How do I know this?

Because we have been told it is.

The Greeks told us about The Garden of the Hesperides where Golden Apples grew that if a mortal took a bite from one he would become immortal.

The Garden of Eden had two trees. One the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and the other the Tree of Life.

Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge and we're kicked out before eating the fruit from the tree of life which would have bestowed physical immortality in humanity.

The Epic of Gilgamesh and his quest for immortality which could have been achieved by the eating of a particular plant which grew at the bottom of the sea.

Gilgamesh gets the plant after diving into the sea and retrieves the plant and in his way back home suffers from extreme exhaustion and falls asleep only to wake up to see a serpent devour the plant.

So, would you choose immortality if you could?

Yes or no?

Here’s a better option Philly….

Which would you choose:

A. You get to live 1000 years knowing when you die that’s the very end - no after life - nothing - nada - you’re done forever

B. You live 80 yrs with a 50% chance there is an afterlife and you live for eternity

50-90 yrs old is definitely too short

Always thought we should live around 500 years.
And of course age appropriately

Can you imagine being 100 yrs old and just getting started 🙂
Actually, I think everything other than this planet, is probably immortal.

We are told the only reason death exists at all is because Sin entered the world.

What if this is literally the only place in the whole universe where Sin exists?

It would mean all other beings in the universe, living outside of earth, are immortal.

Whether they are good or evil.

We also have been told that physical immortality is achievable through alchemical means.

I think it's not only possible, but very probable, that physical immortality was our original intended state, just like everything else in the universe, but humanity really fukked up and now we have to find our way back to it.

I'll play your game, Wags.

Under your scenario I choose B.

There is absolutely an afterlife that being said.

You make valid point Philly

My pastor often preaches on this and how sin destroys our bodies

Pass - just back from a funeral yesterday.

Imagine just outliving every friend/family member you grew to love. I saw that yesterday in a dear friends eyes and its rough - being the last of the people you grew up with and having buried a spouse and children.

Then there is the afterlife as mentioned - again we have KNOW there is an afterlife as it has been foretold. Exactly what it is and how you get there/how long the process is is debated - but most theologies agree there is one.

It's not nonsensical at all! He actually makes some very great posts and gets some great discussion going.

To answer your question, it depends on my health. I wouldn't want to live forever if I was in bad health and couldn't really do anything or enjoy life

If everyone was given the option, imagine how overpopulated planet Earth would be.
That might be one reason why not everyone is given that option.

You got to go get it for yourself.

You gotta look for it.

It's there. Believe that.

But it takes real knowledge.

Not the shit you learn from a classrom.

Too bad this can’t really happen

I’d take my 50-50 chance on surviving

For those who aren’t familiar with the name Thanos, he’s a character in the Marvel Avengers movies.
He does succeed in this just before Thor nearly kills him

Thanos is depicted as an alien warlord from the doomed planet Titan with a universe-spanning agenda to wipe out half of all life to stabilize overpopulation and prevent what he views as life's inevitable extinction. To do this, he sets out to obtain the six Infinity Stones, cosmic gems with the power to achieve his goal.

I hear you coach but all those things are going to happen anyway so what would be the point of you dying too?

I'll take the immortality, keep my head down and live off the grid living in anonymity forever.
