Only had over 170 hits five times

Only had over 100 RBI five times

242 career homers

1770 career hits

Guy was pretty decent but not all-time franchise great??

Also enshrined in team HOF

It's a franchise without many great "long term" players. Same with teams like White Sox and and Toronto. Team career leaders board a little soft.

There is something to be said about a guy who plays with one team for a long period of time. You just don't see it anymore so I guess they wanted to honor him because he was a Met through and through.

Popularity contest.

He was popular among fans - but statistically middle of the pack among “stars”.

It’s the team HOF - looking at the people in it. Lots of guys who had decent careers (Al Leiter), were full of promise at one point or just famous for contributions to the game elsewhere.
