For me it was "The Sarge" Gary Matthews SR. What an under-rated player. He had a long career with above average numbers and has some of the best post-seasons numbers that you don't hear of. Talk about stepping up when it counts. I was devastated as a kid when we traded him and Bobby Dernier for nothing. When Daryl Strawberry came on the scene, I added a few faster circles of the bat that I already had with Sarge and started hitting from both sides of the plate. Those were the days. Fortunate to grow up near Philly seeing those late 70s/early 80s Phillies teams. If I was born 10 years later than no doubt my stance and swing would have been Lenny Dykstra. Look at this swing by the Sarge. It is a thing of beauty and you thought Barry was the king of the bats toss:
