Technically not a loss. More of a blown opportunity:
I decided to take a job about a year ago, after being retired for about 7 years. April 2022, I’m playing Keeneland, playing a handful of my usual trainers. About 10 minutes to post in race 2, I realize there was a cheap opportunity to play a pick three involving two of my favorite trainers down there, Vicky Oliver and Rusty Arnold. So I’m about to bookend them in the Pick 3 with ALL in the middle….
Lo and behold, the only person that I answer to in the place stops by my office to chat. Another meat head joins in. They are there for about 20 minutes, and I can’t get my bet in.…..a bet that would only cost $12.
Oliver wins Race 4 at 12-1.
Some no name trainer wins race 5 at 78-1, in the race I would’ve had ALL in…
Arnold wins Race 6 at 17-1. All horses win rather easily.
Pick 3 comes back at $19,000 for a buck.

Now, I understand it would’ve paid a little less if I played, since it would of been one more share of the pool. But woulda, shoulda, coulda been a beautiful score at a $12 risk.
