Or probably because so many of the games are rigged lol
Often thought there was some fixing in tennis and hockey at “lower levels”.
I mean think about it - Challenger series or minor league hockey - certain leagues overseas. Could easily hide 60-100k in action and your talking guys making that at best a YEAR. Lose one match or game - means nothing in your overall career and improves quality of life dramatically.
Problem with fixing is everyone talks. You obviously can’t use your name and just walk in and bet 100k on a challenger match. You got to spread it out and get someone to place a bunch of 2500-4k bets over the course of a day from different IPs. That guy enlist 2 drinking buddies to help - one of those buddies brags to anyone who will listen - suddenly you have a problem.
Then you have tennis matches were guys are just guaranteed an appearance fee and suffer “injuries” - doesn’t happen as much - but no doubt it still happens.
It’s kind of funny - had a big celebration of Jagr’s jersey retirement in Pittsburgh the other day and he is of course still playing for his hometown team. That guy was a huge gambling addict - wonder if he ever threw a game or 2 in his life playing for his own team ?
