Has anyone ever made a bet say the night before and now you don't like it anymore before the game for whatever reason? And if so how did you handle it? Took a juice bath? Took a cashout if it is possible? Just stand by and let it ride?

Back in the day some books would change the play for you over the phone as long as it hadn’t moved

I’ve bet the wrong side than I intended more times than I’d like to admit. Damn phone screen and bad eye site.

Usually about 2 minutes before game and I’m rushing.

Assuming I catch it - just let game start, hope for a chance to bet the side I wanted at a better price and then double up to account for the unwanted side.

Of course sometimes I miss and login expecting to see a win and it’s not there. Others I login to trip only to see a positive balance from my unexpected win - later seems to happen more than the former.

Never - ever cancel tickets.

First thing they tell you working the windows at a race track.

Try to talk the customer into keeping the ticket - this way if they win - they tip a portion. Worst case though - buy the ticket as it’s bad luck.

Gamblers a superstitious bunch - not me though - I’m just a little stitious.

I wanted to bet a Pick 4 the day before the 2012 Belmont on Saturday’s big card with the last leg being the Belmont.

I only had $24 on me and didn’t really want to hit the ATM. I worked one up for exactly $24, capped off with Union Rags winning the final leg.

Went into the track that’s about 25 minutes from me. Made the bet, got all the way back to the car, put the ticket in the glove box. Before I pulled away I took one last look at the ticket to make sure no errors and realized I had punched in the wrong single, #1, for the first leg of the Pick 4.

So instead of just keeping the ticket thinking maybe it was a sign I walked all the way 5 minutes back up to the teller, fixed the ticket as I’d originally intended, and left.

You know what happened next. The #1 won the first leg as a longish shot, maybe 7/1 or so.

Cost me $2,400. I was so pissed. Last time I ever canceled a ticket.

Definitely. I cancel bets all the time. I no longer go crazy about it if it costs me.

Didn’t realize you lived by Belmont. We’ve probably crossed paths once or twice. I lived in Queens for 40 years. Spent too much time at Belmont.
