Wander Franco Arrested tonight

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was arrested Monday in the Dominican Republic after being interviewed by prosecutors investigating him for an alleged relationship with a minor, according to an official in the Puerto Plata province prosecutor's office.

Franco appeared before prosecutors while accompanied by two lawyers, days after not showing up for a meeting with prosecutor Olga Diná Llaverías, according to the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss the case. The official said the interview lasted nearly three hours.

Oh wow there’s a leak in the Puerta Plata province’s prosecutor‘s office.

There’s an official not authorized to discuss the case discussing the case. Despite the questionable ethics and morality of the official, they still ran with his information. I guess they deemed him credible, even if he was breaking the rules of his office.

Franco has been charged with commercial sexual exploitation and money laundering in the Dominican Republic, Juan Arturo Recio of ESPN Deportes reports.

Franco had initially been arrested Monday for failing to appear at a summons last week and now these new charges have officially been revealed. According to Recio, Franco will be under house arrest and prohibited from leaving the country. The 22-year-old will be presented for the first time before a judge on Friday.
