Wager/BTJ/Le/CapPig and anyone else in that area... How big is UCF football in TB and Olrando? Does it draw fans? Is it a big deal or do the pro teams take away all the fan base?

I'm curious because that is a big population for media coverage.

It doesn't really matter what their attendance is. They can play in an empty stadium. The money is in TV. They are getting a big bump in revenue and rep and they are going to starting landing major players. They are already tough and going to get a lot better fast.

Tanko they definitely fill to capacity a lot more than the Miami hurricanes down in South Florida where they play off campus at hard rock Stadium where the Miami Dolphins also play. UCF does just find in their neck of the woods.

Thats what I was asking. TV audience. If you don't have a fan base or the fan base is focused on the Bucs or Dolphins or Hurricanes, you're screwed.

I think we all agree TV revenue is the key but, networks won't pay unless there are tons of people watching.

They are in the conference. They get the same money one way or another. You don't get any more money.

I don't think you understand my question.
Let me clarify....

If UCF has a large media market and the area populatoin is focused on that team, networks will pay more money to the B12 conference for the rights to broadcast that conference's games. The more large markets you have in your conference the more money the conference can command, which we all know is evenly divided amongst the teams.

The large markets for B12 now will be:
Houston --> Houston Cougars
Orlando/TB area --> UCF (are they a large draw for TV viewers or not). That's my question
Dallas/Fort Worth --> Baylor/TCU

I don't think there is another team in the Big 12 that is in a major media market. Sure Iowa State may draw every TV in Iowa to their games but networks could care less about those 3M people that make up that entire state.

My question is... Does UCF have a large fanbase that TV networks will pay (the Big 12) to draw to their TVs?

Big 12 is pretty confident in the money they are going to get. They consult with the TV networks before they make these moves. Actually Texas Tech is bigger in DFW than Baylor or TCU.

Apparently even the Kansas schools and Iowa State are valued pretty highly as television franchises. They get pretty good ratings.

I think they might have to take a small cut from what they are making now but it is expected to be about the same because the conference is considered pretty valuable even without Texas/OU.

I agree KU basketball is huge TV draw. Not sure I agree with the ISU being a draw outside of corn belt.

Well they are already in so it does not matter that much. Some of these teams get allowed in just to fill out the schedule. But apparently these schools pull their own surprisingly well. It is just a question of what they are going to pay based on the new teams and the value they add to the league. So the value is considered pretty solid. It is not going to drop as much as people think. They will still lose pretty dramatically compared to the other conferences but will still be minting money.

And if you look at Iowa State and Iowa, one has an enrollment of 30,000 and the other 33,000. So the basic value of the two is pretty much equal. Iowa has a better reputation and following maybe because they have been better and play in the Big 10. Ultimately the basic value of the two schools is pretty much the same. So Iowa State's value to the Big 12 is proportional to Iowa's value to the Big 10.

These TV packages are more regionally based than national for these types of schools.
