Girma made a comment about it at a press conference when asked. I think it was after the Vietnam game.

Defender Naomi Girma dismissed questions about the USWNT's abstinence from singing.

“I think when we’re out there, we’re preparing for the game. And that isn’t the focus,” Girma said, per Just Women's Sports. “Ultimately, every player has the choice. I think that’s what I would say.”

IMO its being blown out of proportion.

I think people are more bothered that only a couple of them put their hand over their chest not with the singing part

I will always honor and respect my country in anyway possible , singing the anthem included. That's who I am and the only person I am qualified to speak for. As for gay , transgender or whatever label you use......
