How about going back to leather helmets. You probably wouldn’t see defenders leading with their head. The no face mask thing might be problematic. My dad tells a story how a teammate lost an eye blocking a punt. They were coached to cross their arms when blocking kicks.

I think you might see a running clock in the future.

With teams now running 75+ plays per game it's basically DOUBLED the amount of impact hits per game in less than a generation; that's the 'trade off' to passer friendly football.

But a running clock would likely bring that # of plays down to 1990 levels, where you had 35-40 plays total.

They will always have helmets. Maybe plexiglass face shield like lingerie football. Actually they are going to play lingerie football.
