Could be par for the course from now on as these players feel they have more and more power

NCAA needs a salary cap in a big way.

They can't enforce the rules they have.

So much dirty underground money being used to get guys to come to a school.

But the rule is that they're supposed to commit to a school, then talk NIL.

They can't enforce that though, and the lure of NIL is bouncing kids around.

Remember UNLV QB last year? He started chirping in the season he wasn't getting his $. They told him to GTFO, and were even better.

This asshole deserves the same treatment

Looks like Vols decided to cut bait and move on from the kid

Surprised they called his bluff but glad. Hope more schools do this

Sad part is it’s not like this kid won’t get paid

He will instantly become the most coveted QB in the transfer portal and will likely clean up with NIL $$. Just like he wanted all along

I just love the people supporting the school’s now in the whole NIL stupidity:

So for years you had a system of cheating/under the table payoffs to parents, mentors and the kids themselves by boosters and people bitched and moaned how “unfair” it was to their school who “tries to run a clean program and can’t compete”.

So you get NIL and athletes are treated as free agents every year - unsurprisingly athletes who have better than expected years want more $$ the next year. Everyone bitches and moans about the “Prima Donna’s” ruining the sport with their demands.

It’s pretty damn clear what the solution is - but no one is going to like it. Either you go 100% socialist - every player on every team gets a equal percentage of the revenue their sport generates so there is no “pay disparity” between playing at the top league or the lowest team in the weakest league in your sport OR you institute contracts that commit a player to the school where they signed their initial NIL deal - want to transfer - fine, you forfeit your NIL deal. Make them place NIL in an escrow until they graduate college too - this way no spending the money - then transferring and not having to pay it back because they are “bankrupt” and they have an incentive to get a degree. Put NIL funds on a beating schedule where you only earn a small percentage each quarter you attend/pass your classes with majority paid on graduation.

That’s how you fix the system - but no one wants to fix it/they want some hybrid of the old payoff system that allows the traditional powers to remain the dominant powers.

The answer is the second option.

Basically you have to treat them like pros. Negotiate a contract. Make them sign it and stay for 4 years or they forfeit part of the NIL $. A lot of schools hiring people to serve as General Managers to facilitate this process. No transfers without buyouts just like coaches have or go wtih no transfers at all.
